That sounds like fun Heather! Can you imagine all the badges we would have done if everyone lived near each other and could help each other out.

Great stack of books Hilary.

I didn't finish my macrame flag before the 4th of July. Thank goodness flags can hang year round. This weekend I should have some extra time to work on it.

Krista your flag is looking great!! Per your suggestion I did pick up some macrame kits that I will be tackling soon. I hit a wall with all the stress and chaos around here but finally getting out of the hole and back to my farm girl stuff. I actually celebrated one full year of beekeeping and learned how to harvest honey with the local beekeeper I work with. I currently have three hives - one that survived winter and two new nucs I added in may. I built the hive stands out of free deck wood from Facebook and painted the hives with mineral fusion paint. They are looking really good! I will have to request the older hive in the fall, as they replaced my gentle queen with one of their own. I also completed the 10 week Master Beekeeper Apprentice Level Training course. Just need to study for the test!! I've been teaching classes on gardening for the beekeepers meet up and am working on something other joint activities with my local bee supplier. Needless to say I am all in and officially a "beek"

I also started volunteering for the Impact Project/Artable Curiosities. It's a creative reuse center, teacher store (free supplies for teachers) and creative studio. In addition to sorting donations, I host the knit and stitch meet up and will be meeting with the Director on Tuesday to assess her tech stack/systems and get everything working properly and documented. It's a great organization that does a lot for the community including special programming for special needs kids and adults (as a mama with special needs kids I love it!).

Taking stock of my badge activity to see where I am at with the others and what else I can submit, as well as what other activities to work on. Got a book on knots and some rope, macrame kits, and lots of gardening, sewing, Christmas, etc projects to do!

Oooh fresh honey and beeswax Shenandoah! Will you make your own beeswax candles?

I actually got the book "Beeswax Alchemy" at last year's bee conference. I only have one bar of wax so far, not enough to go crazy making candles. The first thing I want to make is thread conditioner since I embroider a lot. I also want to make some cloth bowl covers and food wrap with the beeswax and natural cotton. Will see how much I have left after that :-)

Shennandoah, you have been very busy. Great job on all your bee hives, honey and wax collecting, and training classes! It sounds like you are really enjoying it.

I have still been working on my flag. I have started the waves to the red and white part of the flag, but they have been a little frustrating. I am struggling to keep them in line and have had to undo the knots many times. I am so close to finishing it though!

It's so interesting to hear about your bee-keeping adventures, Shennandoah!! It's something I've thought about, but we have bees across the road who come and pollinate my garden. I'm on the allergic side so I think having someone else supplying my little pollinators is the way to go!

I'm working on the immediate level of the Her-Story merit badge.
I chose the autobiography, "Reaching for the Moon: The Autobiography of NASA Mathematician Katherine Johnson."
It was such an interesting read, I learned:
1. Katherine was born in 1918 in White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia, the youngest of 4 children.
2. She was gifted and skipped a few grades in school, causing her to graduate from high school at age 14 and start college at 15.
3. She was a middle school teacher of mathematics and science. She met her first husband there, and they had 3 girls together. He tragically passed away due to a brain tumor when she was 38. She remarried a few years later.
4. She worked for NASA, programming analytical codes and pathways for rocket launches. Her calculations put Apollo 11 into space and helped Neil Armstrong land on the moon.
5. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and at 97 years old, wrote her autobiography.
