Somehow I was chosen to do an expense surrey for the 2020 census. For two weeks I have to record all my expenses on-line. I checked to see if I could use it for a badge but can't. Since I started doing badges again I look at everything I do to see if it can be used for a badge.

That's so true, Sara. I remember awhile ago I had joined Weight Watchers and had started up exercising and later found out that it could have been applied to a badge. Always check what you are doing because it may be a badge!

This Summer, I am working on my Weather badge and the Trees badge. The weather one has been really cool and I love learning all the details about how our weather happens. I am a true blue weather bug and have been since childhood. It all fascinates me. My last skill for this badge is a month long weather log so I have that set up and I started with today's stats.

I am also going to start my tree badge and now that my field guide has finally arrived, I am ready to go. Trees are another topic that I want to learn more about and widen my appreciation for the many varieties and their contributions to everyone. When I was a child, I remember doing the Girls Scout tree badge and a leaf identification project for our 9th grade biology class. In those days, I loved in Virginia so now I am excited to learn more about Florida where I have been living for over 40 years. It is about time I learned about the trees around here!! LOL!!!

Thank you Marie. Yes Jill the Lets Get Physical Badge.

Winnie, those sound like some nice badges to start. I’m excited to hear all that you learn and hear how your badges go.

I'm on page 9 of my new cozy mystery. Eleven more pages and I can summit for expert badge. So far I really like this story and where it's going. Since I am only able to write for short periods of time it does seem like it takes me forever to finish a chapter.

Over the weekend I decided to start on a new badge. At the first of this year I ordered me a learn to cross stitch kit and decided it was finally time to check it out and learn. I only have a little bit done and have been working on it here and there. It will be a unicorn when it’s finished. So far it doesn’t seem to complicated just a bit small and tiresome for my eyes.

Krista, happy crossing stitching.

I've been working on mapping out who-done-it and why for my cozy mystery. Not quite there yet. Got some loose ends to tie up then I can tell the story. I started writing the story when I hit on a title I like. That's not the best way to begin but I think it'll all work out in the end.

Sara, have you been able to figure it out?

Thanks. I haven’t had a chance to work on it again. Been trying to finish up some 4th of July stuff. But every time I walk by I can see it calling my name! I’ll just stay up an extra half hour tonight so I can work on it!

Thanks for asking, Krista. I've got the red herring set in my mind but haven't figure out how to weave it into my story. The murderer is taking shape also. I started the storyboard yesterday so it'll help me keep the storyline and timeline in order. Should have done a storyboard at the beginning of the story instead of on page ten. I guess it's better late than never.

Sara, I’m glad you are getting it figured out. I hope to read it once you have finished it.

Debbie, I already do that with my crochet and diamond painting so I know I will with cross stitch as well. It’s very exciting so it draws me in!

Krista, how's the cross stitching coming along?

I'm a couple of pages further along on my story.

I started another beginner badge today. "Stitching & Crafting Nellie Will-Do". I find I like to mix up writing with a little hand work. I ordered a wool applique kit for 6 winter bowl pillows. Beginner badge calls for 25-hour investment of time so hopefully I can finish them by then. Speedy I'm not.

Yesterday, I submitted my paperwork for all three levels of the Tree Badge, Speaking to the trees in the Outpost section. It was a joy to complete and I had a lot of fun learning the names for many of our common trees in my yard, neighborhood, and the greenway park that I visited. This badge opened my eyes to all the diversity of my area in north central Florida. For awhile, I kept saying to myself that I really needed to get a tree guide book and learn the names of the many oaks that are here as well as many of the types of pines. The tree badge allowed me to have a structure to do all of those pursuits and also make me a project that had to be done outside. I combined gathering leaves during my morning walks and then used my tree guide to determine what they all were named.

I have about a week to go to finish all three levels of the Weather badge, which has also been a lot of fun and very informative. The last requirement is a daily weather log for one month and it has been a great way to see trends of local weather when we had the Saraha sands arrive, and now a series of low fronts churning in the Gulf dragging hot, humid, and thunderstorm filled days.
