To our dear farmgirl chapter and forum members, a little someone needs your help. Eight-year-old Mahri, who “modeled” for us in the last two issues of our magazine, has lost her mother, former MaryJanesFarm employee Stefanie Crawford. Stefanie lost control of her car when she hit a patch of black ice last Saturday near the small town of Colfax. A single mom, she was traveling with Mahri and the latest addition to her family, another little girl, two-month old Meadow. Meadow is still in critical condition and struggling to survive but Mahri’s prognosis is good. With two broken legs and a bruised lung, Mahri’s body will eventually heal even though it took paramedics two hours to pry her from the wreckage. She knows her mother didn’t make it. We’re hoping to deliver lots of cards to Mahri every day until Christmas. Please consider adding her to your Christmas list this year. She’s a voracious reader so some age appropriate books would be great. Cards and more cards--homemade like our forum mail-art or playful store-bought. Dolls and doll things, playful Christmas ornaments … whatever you think would delight and distract her. We want her to feel immensely loved and cared for, so much so that total strangers are willing to take her into their hearts.

Mahri has lost the kind of mother that keeps motherhood on a pedestal. It’s almost as if Stefanie knew her time with Mahri would be short. She was a fiercely joyful, playful, adoring mother 100% of the time. Mahri always came first. She was Stefanie’s everything and vice versa.
Stefanie and Julie Bell hosting our 2004 Christmas party.
Please consider dropping Mahri a card or a bit of gift in care of MaryJanesFarm at 1000 Wild Iris Lane, Moscow, ID 83843
Stefanie comes as a rag doll to our Halloween party.

Heartbreaking. Will be glad to do my part--I know what it's like to lose a parent when you are young. Bless her.
Just think of all of the roads there are...all of the things I haven't seen....yet. |

If anyone is going to send in books can we post them here so she doesn't get 10 copies of the same thing?
Do you think the Little House books would be too sad to read right now? I know they have a huge emphasis on family and I would hate to give her a gift that would cause more pain. |

My daughter Elizabeth has asked me to post the following in her behalf.
Hello everyone, I have actually been staying up here in Spokane sitting with Mahri and checking in on Meadow occasionally. Mahri is doing great, she just started drinking liquids and juices Tuesday and tried some soft foods Wednesday as well.
Originally they though she had broken both legs, but she shattered her right femur, the other leg was in pain from her multiple pelvic fractures. She also has a broken right clavicle and she does have a bruised lung. With everything going on she is doing amazing! Books would be a wonderful gift for Mahri. She loves to read. I bought her 7 books Tuesday and within 30 min she read 3 of them to her dad and me! She is an excellent reader,a bit more advanced than her actual read age. Right now she said she'd really like Christmas books, Cabbage Patch Kids books, Barbie/Princess books, or any other books that have a decent amount of reading with pictures and is kind of light so she can hold them with her very sore and weak arms.
Thank you everyone for keeping her in your prayers and sending her cards and gifts during this very scary and stressful time for her!
Elizabeth

Oh my heart aches for this little girl, and her sister. I'll be glad to send cards, and will share this request with other like-minded friends.

MaryJane,
Is there any update on these two little girls? Hopefully the mailman is using a larger truck these days to deliver cards and packages for Mahri. Is there anything we can do for Meadow?

I just stumbled upon this post . . . not sure how I missed it, but I am so very sorry to hear this. I know she was special to you, MaryJane and you too are grieving, along with the whole team at MaryJanes. I will keep her, her tiny sister and the entire MaryJane crew in my prayers. I of course will be happy to send anything to help brighten her day. Is there any updates on the baby? Please let us know. Blessing to you!
Brenda
