Just really wanted to share with all of you about all the love shown to my son. We lost him August 9th to cancer of the appendix. My daughter and my son's best friend threw together a Celebration of Life at a nearby state park. It was a very informal potluck. Friends gathered, ate great food. Then my husband wanted to read a wonderful email sent by a friend of our son to say what he thought about him. My poor hubby could hardly get through reading it. After, one person after another shared their heartwarming stories of how they came to know our Jon and what he meant to them. Tears flowed and much laughter. I was dreading this event but I am now so filled with all the love that shared yesterday.
The word "forever" is now hard to grasp but I do know someday I'll get it.
I want to thank all the Farm Girl sisters who sent me cards. Your prayers were so appreciated.

Glad to hear about your celebration and that it was such a positive event. Yes, they bring tears, but they are such wonderful ways to remember our beloved family member. I remember similar events for my mom, my dad, my father-in-law and my mother-in-law (in that order). Wonderful gatherings!

What a great idea a Celebration of Life is. Also it makes everyone remember the good times and not dwell on the tragic loss. 'Though dwell you will. Just remember he will be remembered because he was and is loved.

Oh, dear Sylvia, I am truly heartbroken for you and your family and am praying for you, but what a blessing indeed to be able to celebrate your son like this! How beautiful!
Please remember and know in your heart: It is NOT forever. There is only a veil that exists between us and those who have passed. In God's realm, there is only life, beauty, and wonder to behold. Your son is alive and healthy and experiencing life in a way that we can only imagine. Someday we will be with our loved ones again, and there will be no more tears, no more heartbreak, no more sorrow; there will be only life - joyful and abundant. I'm sure you know that your son would want you to be happy and life a good, full life, keeping his memory alive by sharing in the good he experienced and did here on earth. In time, your heart will be strong enough to live without such an overwhelming ache. Be kind to yourself as you go through this. It is so, so hard. I sooo wish I could just hug you and make it all better. But there will be a day, sometime in the distant future, when you will be together again. When it's your time to join him, he will guide you by the hand as you are transformed into God's beautiful, ethereal light. And oh, the wonders you will share together - inexpressible! For now, you must stay strong, sister, and allow the memories to fill you with his love. Remember: He truly is alive, only different. You will see him again when it is time. And oh, what a reunion it will be!
God love, bless and comfort you and all who knew and loved him. I understand the pain, I do. Having lost my dad in December... There are no words... But remember there is always, and definitely, more to come! I pray you find strength in faith and solace in that hope!

Thank you all for your kind words. Today I received a phone call and a card from two people relating to me how much they cared for my son. One stated he was the best definition of the word "mensch." It means man of integrity and honor. I was so impressed by her words. We also came across a wonderful photo of him and the car he treasured so much. He inherited it from his grandmother.
