I picked up a box of Michigan peaches yesterday. They are really nice looking and should be ready to use this weekend. Will can them and make some jam.

Michelle, canned peaches and jam sounds yummy. I remember when you used to be able to buy spiced peaches in jars. They were canned whole and so pretty with all the whole cloves stuck in them and always a favorite for holidays. One of these days I would like to put up a batch of spiced peaches.

Family blessed us with 20 pounds of yukon gold potatoes. Hubby and I canned 8 quarts of garden potatoes. There were a few leftover and into freezer for fried potatoes
I may can more potatoes later this month, but I am soooo tired.

Today's good mood brought to you by a lot of coffee!!!

Tara so nice to have those potatoes in jars. You will be glad later. You don't have to worry about them going bad either. Yesterday 3 of us canned 43 quarts of peaches. We had one jar not seal, so that was pretty good. Today I have some peaches left to make a batch of jam with and a pie. We used the big canner and did them outside on the lp two burner set up I have. You put 15 jars in the canner at one time. Probably easier to just use two canners, but my husband had given me the big one a couple years ago, and thought I would give it a try. I am just glad we got all that done in under 3 hours.

Michelle, you and your family did a great job canning those peaches. Well done! Enjoy the jam & pie.

I know it was a lot of work but had to be a little bit of fun to can outdoors with others.

Michelle -- You brought back happy memories of peach season. Dad would drive Mom over with her pressure cooker and I had my water bath canner ready and we would do a peach canning marathon.

Wow Michelle! That is an awesome amount of peaches. Your family will love those throughout winter. And I bet your jam and pie are going to be just as yummy.

Michele - I think Michigan peaches are the best! I dehydrated 2 boxes and will can the third one tomorrow. I'm hoping to talk my inlaws into making another trip to get some more! I'm glad you like the cutter. I also use mine for cutting fudge at Christmas time.

Tara - what do you do to the potatoes to freeze them? I'd love to try it!

The other day I did get 10 pints of pickle relish canned up. That should carry us through for a long while. The garden is doing so so, after our wet wet June.
Heather if your going to freeze potatoes, you need to cook them partially at least first. I make french fries, blanching them after cutting for 8 min or so I think it was. I freeze hashbrowns, you cook the potatoes, let them cool over night or quite a few hours in the fridge, then shred and freeze on cookie sheets, then put in bags after frozen. Same goes for drying potatoes, cook them first then slice.

Michelle, great job on your 10 pints of pickled relish. Thanks for the hints on freezing/drying potatoes.

Thanks Sara. I got 8 pints of carrots canned yesterday. With the relish and carrots, I had one jar of each not seal. Darn.
I should keep digging carrots, and I had a few that were rotten.

Michelle, 8 pints of carrots is a good thing. As for that one jar in each batch that didn't seal look at this way you knew what you would have for supper. lol

More canned carrots yesterday, and again one jar did not seal. Will have one for supper tonight, for sure. Got one row left in the garden. Might dig potatoes today. All but a plant or two are dead now. Have to check corn now too, that is about ready.

Michelle, canning carrots and then on to potatoes, you go girl. If we could find a way to seal that one jar every time, we would be canning heroines for sure.

It's slowly cooling down here so maybe I'll crank up the pressure canner next week.

Yesterday I canned 3 quarts of peaches and 4 pints of beets. I have some more beets boiling right now. I may get some more peaches tomorrow. If I do I will be canning them as well. I know it's not a lot, but it's a great start for me and my family.

Krista, it is good to start small. Get your canning down and then increase the amounts as you go.

Krista, your peaches and beets are beauty in a jar.
.
Well said, Michelle.

Yesterday I watched a video on u-tube on how to can lamb stew. She cold packed the lamb, veggies, and even the broth was cold. Have any of you canned with everything cold?

Sara, I always can with putting boiling water in the jar. I would be afraid of putting a cold jar into hot water. Finished off canning carrots and a few jars of baby potatoes yesterday. All sealed, lol. Today will be steam juicing elderberries. The fall rush is under way.

Michelle, like you I always use hot broth. Are you going to make elderberry gummies again?

On Wednesday night I canned 3 more pickled beets. Then yesterday I canned 4 more peaches and 7 pints of peach jam! It was not planned, but this week I ended up with a total of 7 peaches, 7 beets, and 7 jams. Lol, I guess 7 is my lucky number!

And so it begins Krista!! haha

Sara I won't make gummies again. They were ok, but did not last very long and they molded. I did make an elderberry syrup with a few other ingredients. Canned that in tiny jars. I would do that again. I have a few jars left over. I got about 2 quarts of elderberry juice yesterday.
