FarmGirl Sisters it's official I have lived long enough to be a little old lady. I was called that today at the grocery store in the most respectful and loving way.

Beth, the young woman that is responsible for all pricing and labeling in the store has formed a bond with me. She tells me about her hummingbirds and I share tales of Maggie & the chicks.

This morning she caught up with me in the parking lot as my groceries were being loaded in my trunk. She had videoed 30 hummingbirds around her feeder on her phone to show me.

She said "I told my husband I had to do it for my little old lady". How sweet and special of her to remember me when she was experiencing all those hummingbirds at her two feeders. She even captured them sitting on her fence awaiting their turn.

I am so grateful to have such a friend and so happy to be her 'little old lady'. After all it took me 73 years of living to be one and I plan on being one for many years to come.

Have a blessed day, Sara ~~~ FarmGirl Sister #6034 8/25/14

There is freedom in being a little old lady. Freedom to be the woman I always wanted to be. Life has a way of teaching us what is important, and what really doesn't matter at the end of the day. Wish I had known that in my 20s.

Oh, Sara! I would've figured you to be in your mid-30's or so!!! LOL! Ah, well... Little young, little middle, little old... What really matters is that you are such a dear, sweet and gracious lady, and such a beloved friend to all! That kind of inner beauty is timeless! You GO sister! Love ya much! Hugs - Nini

Sara: What a wonderful story and a great outlook on our age (I'll be 73 next month). I'm still rarin' to go even though my body says slow down. We need friends of all ages. That's what is wrong with this country, separating the ages. We need to be together and support one another. Happy Birthday.

Judith you're right it was sweet of Beth to think of me on her own time.

Nini, girl you make me blush with all your kind words, but that's okay, because I sure do appreciate them and you.

Bonnie, we agreed on how good it is to have friends of all ages. The younger women need us as examples of women aging gracefully, and still engaging in life. We need them to keep us on our toes, and connected to the generations coming up behind us.

Sara, I just love this story of your friend and the hummingbirds!! Yes, with PRIDE, you can beam at being referred to as "little old lady"!! I agree with you that as we age, we feel less pressured by what others think and enjoy the freedom of being who we want to be. I guess that is what wisdom really is; knowing when to hold em' and when to fold em'!

AMEN and AMEN! Sara, love your story and I agree with you. I'm just a few years younger than you but still a "senior citizen" and have learned a lot about life and myself.

CeeJay, if we are smart we learn from life. If we don't learn than we get to go through it again & again into we catch on.

When I turned 60 the gap between me and a woman in her 80s was closed. Now that I in my 70s I find that there are no gaps between me and all ages if I am open to listening to the generations behind and in front of me.

Nicole, your sweet words have blessed me this morning. Good way to start my day.

Alicia, you are right it was the way she said it when she said "my little old lady" that let me know it was out of respect. When talking with her husband she didn't call me some little old lady from the grocery store, but "my little old lady".

You're right. Don't grow up! I like to still think like a kid. I try not to take life too seriously and find humor in everything. I still love the grass between my toes and swinging on a porch swing.

I will be 72 in October. I still sub at a little country school I love. Last fall a second grader asks me how old I was. I did not answer, but asked how old she was. When she said seven, I said I was a bit older than her. She looked up at me, very seriously, and said she thought I was about 17! I was shocked but she had run off to play as I laughed to myself. Then one morning a couple of months ago I was with sophomores, second period. This group is special to me because I spent the last month of their sixth grade year with them after their teacher quit. One of the boys asked me if I ever get mad. Again I was shocked, but I was honest and said yes. My example had happened only two days before when I needed to air one of my tires up. My husband had piled 200# of feed on the hose. I told the boy that yes I did get mad, because I had to move the feed and air the tire up before I could be almost late for school. I have learned that people young and old watch us, and what do they see? I hope they see God's light coming through.
