I love vintage anything, or things with a nod to times past. I have always loved vintage jewelry like pins and beads, vintage purses (like my mom's old evening bags). Last year I found a beautiful, mint condition wool sweater from the 1950's that looked brand new. I wore it all through the holidays with an old vintage pin and a classic circle skirt.

My best friend and I have the same taste and love to go antiquing and poking in thrift shops. Today we found a vintage 1950's curly lamb swing coat with a silk lining, mint condition, literally like-new condition. I ended up getting it (she got first pick last time). Got it for a song! $15! It's beautiful!

Anyone else have a weak spot for vintage wear?

Nicole

Nicole, I have an interest in vintage clothing but have never found anything that fit and was in mint condition. Post a photo of your new coat so we can all see!!

Hey, Nicole . . lucky you!
I agree with Winnie . . . a pic would be wonderful!

I like vintage clothing as well, but not too much around here and especially anything that I would wear!

I wear little jewelry now, but in the day I collected & wore vintage jewelry especially pins, cufflinks, and bracelets. In the 60s I liked wearing blouses with French cuffs with sweater sets.

One accessory I have been thinking about and would like to find is a pearl collar to be worn with sweater sets. I had one in high school but don't remember what happened to it.

Below the knee straight skirts with sweater sets ~~~ now that was a look. Another vintage look I like and still do is to turn my collar up - makes me feel like a sharp dressed woman.

Have a blessed day, Sara ~~~ FarmGirl Sister #6034 8/25/14

Yes!!! Sadly I am a bit "big" for most vintage.

Okay, girls...here it is. Originally priced at $30, I got it for $15. It has big initials in the inside (reminds me of Laverne and Shirley) from the original owner. Looks like it was never worn, though it is 1950s. I bought a dress last year for a Christmas party that looks like the 50's. This will go perfectly!

Sara, I agree with you...a turned up collar is sharp and classic!

I also love vintage sunglasses and the ones I wear now are from a Woolworth's in the 1940's. Just need a vintage hairstyle, lol!

Nicole

Hi Nicole, I love vintage, and have a weakness for vintage sewing patterns. The coat is gorgeous! One of my treasures is a "little black dress" that belonged to my grandmother in the early 60's. She was not your normal granny but bit of a jet setter. Unfortunately for me, I'm don't have many occasions for such swanky duds! But on those rare occasions it's fun to wear. What's your favorite vintage clothing eara?

Great coat! You got it for a song. There are a lot of vintage shops in our area. Since I am vintage, I have worn a lot of stuff over my lifetime. It's just fun to dress up.

When I was in the AF in the 80's I was stationed in Monterey, CA. On Cannery Row there was an antique store (across from where the Aquarium is now) that had a room full of clothes, and I think that I was the owner's favorite customer. I bought a sheer black shawl collared full-skirted dress from the 50s with a black silk slip and a crinoline. Wearing it, I felt like Grace Kelly! I also had a similar blue dress in taffeta, I think, and a silk one that had vertical pastel stripes. I passed them on years ago, when I 'ahem' outgrew them.

I currently own my grandmother's hats, all carefully stored in hatboxes, and some of her jewellry. I also love "cat glasses" - I have a pair for when I don't wear contact lenses, and a reading pair.

Doxie Mom - Everyone loves a Weiner!

I LOVE vintage, and I try to wear "vintagey" looks as much as I can - even down to my turquoise cat-eye glasses and my ponytail and bangs. Luckily, most academic librarians dress a little on the eccentric side so I fit right in! 50's, early 60's looks are what I wear the most, because they are the most flattering to me, but I adore 20's styles. I also collect antique kimonos and other Asian textiles - but I'm too big to wear them!

Audra Rose, (Oh such a pretty name!) - your dresses and crinoline slip sound so beautiful! I hear ya on passing them on. My grandmother sewed all her own clothes (and her three children's) and she was so glamorous all the time she looked like a movie star (even when she was gardening)! She was always so stylish. Anyway, when I was fourteen, I was rummaging through her closet and found a yellow dress from the 1950s she had made. It was lined and looked like it came from Neiman Marcus. She gave it to me because it fit. I wore it all the time, and then by junior or senior year it no longer fit so I gave it away. What I wouldn't give to have that.

Rachel I love cat eye glasses, too. I really need to get some regular glasses like that for when I don't wear my contacts, but I do have vintage sunglasses like that - one pair was my grandmother's.

I like anything from the 20' s style to even now the 70's depending on what it is. It's fun. I don't think I enjoy clothes shopping that much because I don't care for "modern" styles as much.

Oh another awesome find at Christmas was at a Goodwill store - a floral, leather trimmed carpet bag purse that had never been used, from the 80's but with such great vintage style. I get compliments on it every time I wear it.

I have my mom's old gloves and evening bags, too. Most of those are early 60's.

And old hats...I only have one from the 1940s my best friend gave me, but oh I adore hats!

Farmgirl Hugs,
Nicole

PS I was thinking a vintage rhinestone pin would look amazing on that jacket...but do you think it would harm the coat?

I wore an older - maybe not quite vintage - lace dress for my sister's wedding in California last month. I received lots of comments on it. I love wearing vintage. I wish I could find more good deals.

Love it! Beverly, you are right...can you imagine the ironing? Actually, I think I can.
Linda, sounds awesome, farmgirl.
I have a bunch of vintage patterns, too, but I haven't made any of them yet. Should put that on my bucket list, right?

Here's a picture of the dress - it is vintage "style" but not sure how old exactly because it does have a 13/14 size tag in it. But definitely over 25-30 years, I would think.

I also have a few vintage area patterns - suits from 1946 and 1948 and dresses from now sure the years. Never made them, though.

notice the polite lady leg crossing of these women,,, perfectly poised, legs crossed at the ankles, hands folded on their laps, gloves and hats and even a few cordages...
I luv this photo... I found it at the flea market and could not resist buying it... I wonder who they are and what this group photo represented...
