Love this! I am always on the look out for more hankies... although I use mine instead of tissues.
May have to rethink using the older ones for "art"

OHHH I thought I was the only one. I buy them whenever I see some. I made my mother's and grandmother's into a quilt, but, then I started buying them. Oh, I must have 50 or more!!! Do not have any plans for these but I still keep buying!!!! Love them...

I Love handkerchiefs, too! My love started very practically - I was always sick as a kid, and my Grandma gave me a handkerchief to carry instead of tissues, because a hankie didn't make my nose so raw! Now I collect them and carry one with me every day - ones with handwork on them are my favorites, but I love the printed ones, too - especially souvenir handkerchiefs! I found that you can go on ebay and buy bundles of reproduction hankies for cheap and use them for crafting, because I could never bear cutting up a good vintage one! I made my Mom a really cute top for Mother's Day -a t-shirt with a hankie collar. Absolutely gorgeous. Keep the hankie pics coming, ladies!

I found some more in an antique store recently. Two dollars each, beautifully starched.

I love using them for all sorts of things.

I love hankies too. I have quite a collection. I took a wonderful class called "hanky panky" by Cindy Brick of Colorado. She has a book too. We had a blast starting with a square of muslin and them overlaping hankies and lace to make a quilt. I used mine for a pillow.

Grace, add me to your list of hankie-loving friends. I nearly cried when you described your excursions to Woolworths to buy gifts. Our Woolworths was really old and had wood floors and a fabulous old-time soda fountain. I remember the Evening in Paris bottles and the same sweet little boxes of handkerchiefs. Remember Cutex nail polishes? There were maybe five colors and we thought that was a dazzling array! And those boxes of face powder? So exotic to a little girl! The Vermont Country Store catalog has some of those fondly remembered items (or modern knockoffs, anyway) for sale in their catalog and online. The Evening in Paris that we remember as kid-cheap, they have given quite a hefty price.

I have't heard the term "pocketbook" in decades! My New Jersey grandma used to pronounce it "pockabook." Nice memories :)

Grace, I have that same red and white heart hankie. It was my mom's. My aunties would write me letters or cards when I was still at home. They always included a pretty hankie.
