It got up to almost 40 degrees today so I started thinking about spring. I'm thinking of getting a few backyard chickens and it occurred to me the place I want to place the coop has Jimson weed in the summer--any tips on how to eradicate this stuff? It's poisonous to chickens. If I can prevent it from coming back that would be great.

It is up to 16 here and all I can think of is spring! We've had such frigid temperatures and wind chills again this winter that even the winter fans are dreaming of an early spring. Maybe a botanical garden or landscaper by you can tell you how to safely remove the Jimson weed. Good luck with that and hope spring is truly on it's way!

On Sunday it was a crisp 3 (THREE!) degrees (and the added windchill...-25 or worse...yowzers!), but it made my day when I went to let the dog out of her kennel. The sun was shining on dirt in front of the gate and it was MUDDY! Spring can't be far away w sun power like that lurking.

Penny! 3 degrees!!!!!!! OMGoodness, and here I am freezing and the temp is 43. LOL. I'd have to have five layers of fleece to live in SD.

I'm only thinking in terms of "will we have enough water for this summer for domestic use, gardens and farm irrigation"?? We just got a major dump of very heavy wet snow which offers a glimmer of hope for the southwest. We've been dealing with too many years of not enough winter precipitation and severe dry, drought summers.
And, when spring comes here so do the spring winds which are very unpleasant!
BUT . . there is hope! :D

It is hard to handle drought . . . if there's no water, there's no water!
It snowed pretty much all day yesterday, just very light flakes today. It's warm enough that the snow is melting. I've been told there is more headed our way tonight/tomorrow. While I grateful for it . . . I'm ready to see the sun again!

With our latest "dump" of major snow . . the most we've had in a long time, there is hope! The snow is melting rapidly and there is green grass under it! :D
