I'm also hoping all is well for you Tara.

I thought I was done with herbs but we got some much needed rain and the temps are still quite warm. Everything is greening up again! I might be drying another round of herbs soon.

I look at it this way, Sara. Better dried than wasted! I can sneak mushrooms into our meals if they are chopped up very small. My husband doesn't like them, but I have managed to get them into so many different things! Dehydrating sounds like a great idea to me! I can sneak them into more things that they! Hehehehe

Diced apples and apple slices in dehydrator Last Tues we went back to apple orchard in NC. They has a huge crate of 2nds or "culls" in the back. I dug thru and found small but still in good shape fruit. About a 1/2 bushel. I dont have any idea the variety. I had to try a few slices and oh yum! It's going to be a challenge not to eat them all by the weekend.
I want diced apples to enjoy this winter on oatmeal.

Today's good mood brought to you by a lot of coffee!!!

Tara, I've always liked to go through baskets of fruit or vegetables in the back or on the marked down shelves. With a little work there's good food for eating, canning, or drying.

Sara, I do like a bargain.
I was at grocery store and ask guy if they were going to mark down all that bagged kale. He said he was going to throw it out. I got 4 bags on the cheap.
I volunteer at food bank and once a month we are given a box of produce. I'm glad to have the food and preserve what we dont eat within a day.

Today's good mood brought to you by a lot of coffee!!!

Drying Sweet Marjoram this morning. Haven't had marjoram in several years so I had to read up on when to harvest. Unlike most herbs Sweet Marjoram is harvested after it flowers.

Drying parsley this morning from Aldi. Tried growing parsley a couple of times but never had any success so I gave up and buy it when I want it. It's funny how there always seems to be some plant I can't grow but does so well for others.

Nice to get the herb jars filled back up again. I have done loveage, and chives so far. I did buy a box of mushrooms and dried them to use in making cream of mushroom soup. Will see if it works or not.

Good job on drying loveage and chives. I've dried mushrooms but have never made mushroom soup, let us know how it turns out.

Sara, I have a qt size jar of dried basil from last year
This year I'm putting basil in freezer bags and into freezer. Then I can batch make pesto or add a few crushed leaves to tomato soup.
In dehydrator today mint and rose petals

Everyone is busy with the first spring harvest. Sara I want to make my own cream of mushroom soup, also chicken and cream of celery. I did make one batch of cream of chicken and used it in a recipe and it worked out good. I did dry some frozen celery to try using too.

I'm getting ready to do some drying. I'm excited I planted celery for the first time this year. I was just going to freeze it, but the cream of celery soup sounds like a great idea to try!

Tara - I wish I was your neighbor :) I have plenty of oregano but my rosemary didn't survive the winter. My new little plant is tiny!
