Heather - we are actually looking at moving to Wyoming, about 15 minutes from SD. But yes, I was talking about that area :) Oh how I long for snow... shoot at this point, cooler non-humid weather would be fantastic!

Little by little I am still decorating for fall. This morning I put a wooden round cheese box filled with last fall's dried gourds on the front porch. I like the way it looks sitting among my collection of roosters & hens.

This year I will look for the more colorful & unusual gourds to buy & hopefully they will dry too.

Here is one I took last fall ... I buy all my livestock supplies and apples in the fall from the Mennonites. I love going there this time of year ... It is always just so pretty how they do their corn.
Been really cool here tho ... hope it stays that way.

I got some decorating done this weekend :)

Well, now the upload box isn't working so I'll have to post some more later. It's a cloudy, cool day here today - only 66 right now (almost 3pm so I don't think it's going to reach 70 today).

Here's the other pictures I was trying to upload the other day:

Lincoln checking out the decorations

I think he approves

Still very fall like weather - for now. It's only 61 right now, but I hear it's supposed to hit 80 this weekend. It's going to feel HOT after the 60's all week. Hubby even brought in some fire wood just in case we need it tonight :) He's not one for a chilly house.

I'm a little bummed - the orchard my FIL always stops at on his way home from work hasn't opened yet. My MIL thinks that means they're not going to since apple season is underway. It's illegal to sell raw apple cider unless you make it yourself - they did. I can not find any unpasteurized cider anywhere else around here :(

Well, off to do the dishes.

Hey Heather, your decorations look great! I love your sweet little kitty too. What an adorable face!!

It is hard now to find raw cider since there was this outbreak of Salmonella and deaths a few years back. I have been reading all about it in my new book on how to grow apples and make cider( like that is ever going to happen in Florida!!@#, but one can still be interested, right?) You know, with your own farm, I bet you could find an old cider press somewhere and set it up . Then purchase bushels of apples and press your own. Why not? From the photos of this book, some of the wooden presses are not that big and they are pretty simple in design. In your area of Ohio, I bet there are some Amish presses or amish made ones you could find. It could be an event at your farm with some close friends or family each year. Or just press several half gallons and freeze them for use all year. Did you happen to look in Lehman's online and see if they have something new that would work for small batches? I do know from this book, there are places in Vermont and New Hampshire where cider enthusiasts make raw cider for themselves and friends all the time. They just don't sell it to the public. I hope you find someone who is making it this year so you can enjoy a mug of hot cider on one of your chilly eves!

YES, it's here and the weather is just so beautiful today! Cooooool and sunny with a light breeze blowing the peach tree leaves off and into the pasture. The sheep love to nibble on them.
I found this while out this morning ...
my Japanese maple tree is just starting to change it color.

Hey Farmgirls, it is 64 degrees out this morning! Now that is a taste of Fall down here!!!! We are in the midst of tons of rain which is keeping the temps down to the low 80s today. I got all of my decorations out both inside and out as of last weekend, and enjoying the colors. Later in October, I can get a real pumpkin for the porch, but it is way too hot in the day for one now. Same goes for real mums. This weekend, some of the stores got their pumpkins and real gourds in stock. Such a beautiful site seeing them all stacked up!!
