Our oven is currently not working and I'd like some good recipes for skillet breads that can be cooked on top of the stove or bread recipes for cooking in a slow cooker.
There's a recipe in the MJF "Farm Kitchen" magazine for Polenta Fry Bread - it's a pan/skillet bread using the Farmgirl Budget Mix that looks really good, but I haven't made it yet.
I hope your oven comes back to life soon. What a hassle! And right as the weather starts to cool off enough to bake!
ERin, I've had success with yeast breads and quick breads in the slow cooker. I got into this last summer to avoid heating up the house. For the quick bread, you prepare the recipe, then put it in a bowl that fits inside the crock pot. The bowl should be set on a trivet or crumpled tin foil. Before you put the bowl in, pour in 2 cups boiling water into the crock pot. Cover the bread with foil. Cook on high for 3 hours. The bread doesn't get brown on top, but it is a nice alternative.
