My hens who are only 1 yr old and have been laying since last summer stopped production. I think it is the wrong time of the year for molting and I don't think they are being subject to stress. so......
What to do. Any one help?

Mine have too. Only an egg or two every day or so. I think that poor weather keeps them in more (it does mine at least) and they aren't getting the light requirement to lay eggs. It's very hard to keep them laying all winter sometimes. I've decided to let my girls have the last of these darker months off instead off stressing them. I'm pretty sure that when they have the 14+ hours a day light to lay, they'll start up again. It could also be a nutrition imbalance. I know that if I am off even a little on calcium and protein they stop laying. I hope that this helps.

I give mine extra protein in the winter, and pamper them a bit. they took a month off from laying in December, but back to laying reg now. Just keep their water from freezing.

Thanks gals. I am going to add more protein and I probably turned off the night light too soon.
What should I add for more protein? We feed a balanced crumble also oyster shell and calcium plus scratch and scraps too. MB
