I'd love to see that! Hopefully someone from "the Farm" will let us know!

thanks for posting the link, iteresting. we dont get americas heartland on our local pbs channel as far as i can tell would love to see it. the monsanto connection is scary. i grew up in a refinery town and could tell some tales. also close to the motco, the largest toxic waste dump site in the us of a, where the buried all the dioxin from the vietnam war. all i can say is dont close either eye, but do hold your nose. i am glad i live in a rural setting now, and so far no oil refineries, i've done my time......sorry, i got carried away, very emotional about the petrochemical guys.
love fran

The interview was wonderful! It was nice to put a voice to MaryJane and see some of the pages of her book come to life. Thank you for finding that link Bonnie

I sure wish I could have seen the entire "Heartland" series - I was so excited to hear a farmers defending "real" food and "real" farms. It IS interesting that the sponsor was Monstanto, and it WAS a marvelous way for them to spend their money! I have found on my farm that in order to eventually have an organic farm and lifestyle (as much as is possible for me), I may need to do some things in a roundabout way. For example, a few years ago I "nuked" the farm with RoundUp so I wouldn't have to spend years tilling/ploughing and picking. It was a tough decision, but I figured that the petroleum products and machinery that I would use if I did not use the herbicide were at least as harmful to the planet in the "big picture." That way I could begin organic methods of farming successfully much sooner. SOOoooooo - what I am trying to say here is that if it takes Monsanto's money to get MaryJane's message across, maybe that's okay.
And hey - it made me want a bright red apron, too!!!

Nice! I try to tell anyone and everyone about mary jane butters! Love it...I actually came across the magazine by a fluke. I was looking for natural stuff and it was in with the marijuana (i was not looking for that stuff) and i saw mary jane and was like psh never mind and passed it up then I looked again and saw farms and was like hmmmmmmmmm and fell in love with it! :) Love seeing info on her and the farm anywhere yay for the article:)

We watch a pbs station (quad-cities) that has America's Heartland every Sunday - it is really a good program, but its only a 30 minute program. They asked me to take the survey, which I did, and the only thing I commented negatively on was their being funded or put on by Monsanto. I guess there's some bad in the best of us, and some good in the worst of us. |

Bridget: I thought the same thing about the marijuana when I saw the magazine in the natural section near the magazines about pot. I was thinking this sure is a nice cover for a pot magazine! Then I took a look, all the while expecting to be disappointed that it was not about just plain ole farming and here I am today. Not disappointed even one time!! :) I actually moved all of the MJF magazines into the section I thought would be more appropriate at BORDERS. I put them in the highlighted section were they keep Martha Stewart and Oprah so that she would stand out like they do. Every time I see them in the wrong spot, I just move them again. They are all gone now, so my work is done! :) |
