I love to get ideas from others, on what to hand make each year. With your ideas, I am gifting:

-homemade vanilla extract: Done
-hand stitched note cards: DONE
-handmade wallpaper note cards: Done
-jelly - Done - 21 jars made
-handmade goat's milk soap: Done!
-homemade toffee
-handmade Christmas ornaments (a tradition): DONE

adding: homemade Maple-Walnut Butter (gifted Cinnamon Honey Butter in the past, which was a winner too). The recipe is on my blog.

I have not decided on the rest yet. Most likely extended family will all get knitted dishcloths too. I still have to make homemade vapo-rub (I have all the ingredients, but just haven't made it yet).

I will making knitted socks, fingerless mitts, quilted placemats, cross-stitch ornaments, baked goods. I have a larger quilt on the frame being hand-quilted right now. That might go to my mother-in-law.

That is about it. I really don't need to make too much this year. My list is getting smaller. The kids are growing up, so they get things they need. (Gas card, food cards, clothes....)

I really enjoy card-making, but also recycling items by altering them. I've made some really cool ornaments (some even inspired by our farmgirl swaps!), I've altered tins, I've made recipe boxes, brag book/albums... So many cool things! My sister, sister-in-law, and I also make scrapbook pages of each of our kids to send to our parents every year to put in a big scrapbook we made for them. They just love it. We all live so far apart and can only get together once every couple of years, so to our parents, this on-going scrapbook project is a real treasure! :) And every year on Christmas Eve my husband and son deliver really special food treats to our neighbors that I've made for them, like gooey chocolate rum cakes, fancy cookie treats, an array of mini breakfast coffee cakes, etc.

I would love to learn how to make soaps and knit and crochet (again!)! And Kristina - will you please share your toffee recipe? YUM!!!

Hugs -

Nini

Nini, I'll get you that recipe, and I will be posting some photos of the cards I am making for my Mom. I need another idea for my SIL. Hmm? She likes anything homemade, but is diabetic. I do gift all of my extended family jelly, but I may make pot holders and one single larger one for her and her hubby too.

Not too many family gifts any more. BUT, so far, I don't have anything in the making. I think this HOT, HOT, HOT SUMMER has fried my brain!
It certainly has smothered and suffocated my creative spirit!
Happy planning!

I have a quilt piece of my grandmother's and other things from my great-grandmother (an apron, a stitched towel, and some little crochet things) I'm framing them and giving them to my older brother. I'm still thinking about some other stuff. I know I don't have a lot of time though...

They are all made with a base card of cardstock. The heart cards are made using cardstock and scrap wallpaper. The other cards have embroidered stitching in white cardstock, attached to a cardstock card.

I have a simple fingerless glove pattern so I have been knitting pairs of gloves for everyone this year as well as a simple ear warmer pattern to match. I love using up yarn for the gloves and creating fun colors and combinations.

Winnie, I would love to see what your ear warmers look like. It sounds like something my girls (and myself) would like.

Kristina, you always have such wonderful gifts :) Thanks for sharing!

Winnie, I love fingerless gloves and have a few pair of them. Someday I would love to learn to make my own for gifting.

We usually gift:

~Homemade Marshmallows
~Home Roasted Coffee
~Jams, Jellies
~Handcrafted Soap

This year my husband has learned woodturning so some handmade woodturning gifts are on the list too :)

When I make gifts for others, I try to pick a gift to match the receiver. I am making, journals, shawls, kitchen items (A set consists of placemats, napkins, napkin holders, dish towel for stove to hang on and possibly an apron to go with the theme). Those are just a few of the items that I have been working on this year.

I have had a few requests for cinnamon/honey butter this year now. I'm considering making it for all the families too.
I forgot to add to my own list, that we are giving my dd's handmade goat's milk soap as gifts this year too.

I made my first batch of soap this weekend. I am excited to have it and was able to use my own lavender essential oil after rendering my own lard using fat from the pig we bought this summer! ha. Love the crockpot.

Kristina, How far in advance can you make the toffee bars? they look yummy.

I make mine in December. If you make them too far in advance, the only thing that may happen, is the chocolate discoloring (whitening a bit). I love it, and it's one thing my family looks forward to each holiday.

I store it in a Tupperware container, layered with waxed paper (one layer of toffee between each). Then I place it in gift bags, either by itself, or inside a recycled jar (decorated, such as a peanut butter jar).

You all are doing beautiful things. I'm determined to make gifts. I love to do redwork on floursack towels and make them really festive. I found an outlet of natural floursack towels. They are slightly thicker than the bleached ones. I make pumpkin butter and canned it in my canning pressure cooker. Red pepper jelly and home made cranberry sauce. Love what you are doing!

I have been mod podgeing old wooden cutting boards, wood trays and small wooden shelves. themed with kitchen, cooking, tea pots, cups & saucers, earthy garden pictures. then apply several coats of poly on them to seal them. My family and friends love them. I'll have to take some pictures to post. also will be making dipped pretzels, pumpkin bread, vanilla extract, and aprons.

I've enjoyed reading what everyone is doing. thanks for the shares
Love the Toffee recipe!
