Just wanted to touch base with other farmgirls in the OH/IN/PA area. I didn't have time to get on the internet before our power went out. I do have an update on our area, on my blog today, but wanted to see how other farmgirls were after the major storms that came through.

We are doing a lot of clean up today.

kristina; we were fine up here in Lorain County tho i was stuck in a hallway at work for about an hour while we were under the watch..because my company is technically on College grounds we had to wait for the local college to allow us to leave!i've been watching coverage of Bellevue area- we used to live in Lindsay (just north of 20 off 590 ) so i know the Bellevue and Wayne (actually YOUR area!)and etc areas well-. used to drive down 12 toward Findlay twice a week too!i now live about 12-15 bocks south of lake erie and we barely had rain or wind at home -at work 8 miles south was a diff story! we didn't lose power or anything but it made me rethink some of my emergency stuff here at home.
i haven't gone to your blog- praying you are all ok!hugs!!!!!!!!

Margo, we drive rte 12 almost every other week. Small world. There is another farmgirl in that area, so I'll e-mail and see if she suffered damages. We had a large mess to clean up, and still have to have the bank come out to look at the barns. What a mess. I know some places got it even worse, so I wondered how everyone was doing. I was told when the storm approached PA, it started to split in different directions, but didn't have any power to keep up with news.

It's hot and drying up here, but my garden is a sad story now. I'm a bit sad about that.

Kristi-wow! I am sorry to see the damage to your barns but sure are glad that you and the family (and animals) are all safe and sound! That is s scary the way things can just creep up. Thank God your mom was able to warn you!
Glad you at least got some firewood out of the deal. Sounds like it was a win win situation in that regard....the neighbor got the tree cleared and you got to keep the wood for your hard teamwork! Yay!
Stay safe my friend!

I have heard some folks have trees over their houses, so I guess we are lucky, considering. We have a very large Ash tree that is dead and needs cut down. It's near the house and it's still standing after this storm (it died last season).

We are pretty much sleep deprived, and recovering from the mess. The last thing Hubby wanted to do, after work and a shower, was cut up a tree. However, I am glad we did. My brother's neighbor was absolutely thrilled (and his wife) to see us arrive with a chainsaw and extra help. They thanked us over and over. My son helped me unload all the wood. We still have to split some of it to dry it out, but I am thrilled we have a start on wood, out of all of this.

The grass is still so wet here that we cannot mow, and rain is in the forecast (again). My garden is so depressing. But...if the pioneers could get over it, so can I. I will just have to buy at the next Farmer's Market. Or do without. I did pick enough green beans for dinner last night, along with about the only beets we may get this year.

Kristina so glad that everyone is okay. So sorry about your barns. I hope your insurance co. will cover part of the cost to fix them. This weather has been so scary this year.

We also had a storm that day and we had more rain....I too am sick of the rain. The only thing damaged here was one of my chicken coops. The wind blew it sideways several feet. Thank goodness no chickens were in there at the time. Hopefully hubby and my son can help me get it back where it belongs. Its pretty heavy and the chickens don't like having there barn crooked and leaning downhill.
Don't feel bad about the garden the wind leveled over 11 tomato plants again. We have had so much rain the blight is killing my tomatoes and theres a white fungus growing and killing the other veggies. This stuff is even killing the clover in the yard.......its kinds creepy whatever this stuff is.

Take care and once again glad everyone is okay.

You know....the insurance lady has not shown up yet. Strange.

Linda, I had that white, fuzzy, mold stuff growing on my plants too. I tried pulling it, but most are shriveling up to nothing. Just a sad year for some of us.

I'm so sorry, girls, you've been "over-rained" . . . it's just too bad it couldn't be shared! We have the exact opposite problem with the drought, fires, dryness, SERIOUS lack of moisture!

Well, I am battling the heat index today and trying to weed out tomato plants, for the sake of putting something in my pantry. I have to believe that we'll get something out of this season. Yesterday, it was still too wet to work in some parts, and today it's rock hard dry. This season has been such a gamble.
