Kristina be careful. I was attacked many years ago by a sick racoon during the day. I know its normal for them to be out at night but if you see it during the day BE CAREFUL. I would set traps and try to get rid of them. They can be very aggresive and dangerious. Just be super careful.

It may have distemper or even rabies. We are contacting wildlife professionals, considering we have dogs, cats and chickens, and kids. Ugh. So much for feeling safe during the day. That thing was within 8 feet of me, looking right at me. I had walked out, was about to start another flower bed, and saw it walking toward me (out of the corner of my eye). I thought it was a barn cat, until I looked directly at it....screaming my eyeballs out and running in for a weapon of some sort. I took a hoe back out and looked to see where it went, but lost sight of it. This is the second, or third, day time sighting. Not cool at all. We are warning everyone to take a broom or other stick, before going to the barn to feed animals. My chickens are locked up tight, and are not happy, but they are alive anyway.

if you are the one ending up being the one that kills it, make sure you burn its body where it lays, in order to kill all viruses that may be in the dirt from it blood...

If you do kill it, be sure to inform your local law enforcement so they can check it for rabies. If one animal has rabies, it means there are others.

definitely has something if it is out during the day and walks toward you. High pitched electronics will keep them away too. We have raccoons that get in the factory I work at during the off shifts and my husband left his battery charger for his electric drill plugged in one night. They didn't get on his desk that night like usual.
