Ok, so our weather is still pretty much crapolla! but at least my orchid is blooming... 1st time in 6 years....
I know, Big Whop! but to me, it really is.... I brought my Orchid up from SO. Calif... and it has never bloomed since... So here we are, 6 years later and it knows I need it to bloom... as a reminder of patience and beloved memories....

That is BEAUTIFUL!!! Congratulations!! Orchids are lovely flowers. The ones I have are starting to grow babies and get green again, I thought I killed them for a while but decided not to throw them in the compost pile--glad I didn't! I hope to get some more flowers from them.

Grace, now that will make you smile for sure!! What beautiful colors! I received my first orchid just a year ago and had no idea how to take care of it. I am still waiting for it to bloom again, but it's starting to sprout something at the base of the plant, so I am hopeful. I went to the nursery and asked what I should do with it and they told me about the pots with holes in it -- and I thought to myself "oh those pots that I saw last year and wondered why in the world would anyone make a pot with holes in it and who in the world would by one? well, guess that's me! I had no idea they were made specifically for orchids! EEEK.... You learn something every day, right? I noticed right away that my orchid was much happier in one of those "silly" pots! I should be careful what I think (espeically when I think it out loud to no one in particular in the middle of the store). Hahaa... Enjoy your beauty!

haha! I have 2 of my 3 Orchid plants in those types of pots. I use the Orchid bark as filler and the I use old bowls partly filled with water that the bark absorbs up... I also mist (spritz my Orchids 2-3 times a week... This is a Oncidium Orchid...
they prefer more light... and should be re-potted about every 3 years... so I think I'll repot it after it is finished blooming this year.

My sister left her orchid (from her DH funeral) with me for 6 months, I had never had any orchids and I prayed the whole time it would not die. When she moved in with us in March, it had started to bloom and has 8 snowy white flowers on it. Originally, the flowers were a vivid blue, and I thought I had done something wrong, but a florist told me blue is not a natural color and that it had be dyed. We were so thrilled with the original one, that she has bought a second one and I have bought my first one.

This is good to know about being dyed. My local grocery store has had some gorgeous orchids for sale, an amazing mint green color. i have a feeling you see that color only once! Don't think i will "invest" the $$$!

hey Katheryn, sure enough, I was in a Wal-Mart store in their garden center and sure enough they had some Blue orchids... to me, that is so deceiving to the consumer.
