So I am getting a grand daughter around May 10th. We are very excited. They are naming the baby after my grandmother. Her name was (Lillie).
We were wondering how she spelled her name. So I got on the cematary's website and it showed a real picture of each of the head stones. I found my grandma and grandpa's head stone. We thought it would be spelled (Lily). But she spelled it this way (Lillie). Anyways I was noticing that my grandmother lived to be 86 years old and my grand father 84 years old. But all their children except two died early in their 60's and 70's. She had 7 children. So I asked my Mom how come they all died so much earlier than their parents and she said well your Daddy smoked he died of lung cancer and the rest of them smoked or drank alcohol heavy. She told me your grandmother and grandfather never smoked, drank or used any drugs. That they farmed and lived off all of the fresh veggies they grew and raised all of their own meat. Plus fresh milk from their goats and cows. They lived self sufficient off of their land which was not a real big piece of land I think just up to 4 or 5 acres. I loved my grandmother's little farm growing up. I loved spending the summers there. Anyways this got me to thinking that I am so glad I have been an advent gardener and put only healthy things into my body so that i might live a long healthy life. So it made realize it is all about your life style choices.

many congratulations on the new addition..such a pretty name and a pretty way to spell it. i've been thinking about this a bit because my elderly neighbor who is 96 just buried her first born son, and buried her daughter and another son several years ago. only one girl left and she's suffered a severe stroke. All the kids, though riased largely in the mountains, drank heavily and smoked heavily, and unfortunately, suffered the ills of that. she is a God fearing woman who never swears, never drinks, married at 14 and mourns her husband to this day. I am, right now, making a pot of bean soup to take over tomorrow. The funeral was today and I hate to bombard the family after such an exhausting day. Your post has pretty much been what's in my head since I heard of her sons passing. i think she will have trouble outliving her children.

Lillie is a pretty name! It's funny you should comment on how your older relatives lived longer. My mom just said the other day how all her friends (in their 70's & 80's) seem to be in better health than there children, who are in their 50's. We wondered why that would be. Hubby thinks it could be that those of us in our 50's have been exposed to more chemicals and toxins most of our lives. It does give you something to think about. I sure hope that the younger generations don't have health problems at an even earlier age than 50 though.
