Stick to your ribs was one Grandma and Mom used when talking about a hearty meal. I always thought that was funny because when I was little and didn't know how internal organs worked, I actually thought food stuck to our ribs and I always pictured pasta and stuff hanging from them!

"Tougher than a boiled owl..." is a local kitchen opinion. and I always heard it as "Colder than a well digger's knee..." but that was probably cleaned up for kids' ears.....

Wow, this got me to thinking. Afriend of mine always says "don't get your panties in a wad." That cracks me up. She's really country.

And my daughter had a boyfriend once who's mom always said she was so poor she couldn't pay attention.

My dad's favorite was "it takes one to know one."

I read the sayings:
Tight as the bark on a tree. (means stingy)
then:
The one who pays the piper is apt to call the tune.

My grandfather, when asked how he liked something might say "It's nothing to get up in the night and holler about."

My cousin says, I'm so tired my nose won't run

Then there's as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

I love it when my granny tells me all the different sayings that her parents and grandparents told her. She often says,"It takes you 'til noon to say good morning." (Meaning you're being slow at something.)

One person was talking about food taht will stick to your ribs. Whenever we eat a good homecooked meal, Mom always says,"Now, that is the kind of food that'll stick to your ribs!"

I will have to think of some more.
