Here is the link to the full documentary on GMOs and our health. We as farmgirls can unite and pledge not to buy GMOs. As consumers, we have the power to hit them in the pocketbook. This documentary is a rude awakening and has me emptying my cupboards. I didn't think I had any GMOs, but alas I found some and in the trash they went. As of today, I am committing to ALL organic and non-GMO. I have been growing and buying local or organic including my meat for a couple of years now but still have some hidden in things I buy. I have an I-phone app that helps me identify them. After watching this documentary I am sure that my Rheumatoid Arthritis is due to the GMOs that have been in my diet. Most people don't even realize it. If we all stop buying these items and purchase organic and local not only will this impact the big companies that make the GMOs (Monsanto), but it will also bring up the demand for organic and local which will help to lower the prices. I've been doing this for a while now--trying hard to avoid GMO. I even ask the farmers at the local markets what they put on their crops, if they use roundup, etc. While I don't necessarily *have* to have organic, I'm fine with something that is naturally grown, I do like knowing that it is gmo and chemical free. Which of course is another reason we are growing more of our own foods. Personally I think that the drastic rise we've seen in mental disorders, ADHD, neurological disorders, fertility disorders and autoimmune disorders is directly related to the crap in the food we eat and things we drink.

I was so disturbed after I watched that video! I knew GMO was bad but we could never afford to go "full" organic. Now I know we can't afford NOT to! I can most of our own vegetables and freeze other stuff but now I realize I need to get organic milk and grow my own chickens. I sure hope we can find a place to live quickly so I can raise free range chickens to help not only stay off GMO but also really cut back on our living expenses!

I know what you mean! We have a no chicken ordinance in my town, but big cities like Milwaukee and Madison aloow chickens! I cleaned out my cupboards of everything that had corn or soy in it and am buying all organic from now on. It is a little more expensive but worth it in the long run. Every little bit helps.

More grocery stores sell organic foods. But beware, organic doesn't always mean healthy.All chocolate made in USA has soy lecithin in it. Avoid anything with corn, soy and sugars(ok to use Stevia). READ LABELS!!! If we as consumers voice our opinions about what we will buy, stores will carry healthier items. I buy organic as much as I can afford. I want to find a dehydrator, so I can make my own fruit snacks and have dried veggies for soups/stews. I want to grow more gmo free veggies/herbs this year so I can freeze. rareseeds.com has non gmo heirloom seeds.

Tara, that is actually something that I have noticed is some companies are selling "heirloom" seeds but they are not organic and sometimes even a hybrid from the '80's or early '90's and they are calling it heirloom!!! It pays to take the time and find good seeds and then slowly get your own seed supply up. It's crazy!

Heirloom and Organic are two different things. If you go to Seedsavers.org they have a very good explanation of Heirloom, Organic and Hybrid. They also have great information on how to save seeds and have a section of Heirloom Organic Seeds.

Monsanto is BIG> In India they are responsible for the cotton crop.. the whole cotton crop. So farms not only have GMO cotton.. but they have no choice but to buy from Monsanto. Why?
Consider all corn and soy GMO- I don't have a problem with soy.. but have a problem with GMO.
I live in the city and have a small lot. Supposed to be zoned "no farm animals" but the neighbor has a mini-pig. (Cute)... So what do I feed a chicken that is Organic/non GMO?

I found Genetic Roulette from Dr. Mercola's website and it was only free to watch up until a certain day so I don't think it's free to watch anymore :( It was such an informative movie!

i was reading another sites info on this. a dr. who is a research scientist has found a virus. the virus is 37,000 times smaller than a molcule. it is alive reproducing virus. it lives in mammals. he has notified the gov. he is saying it is damaging reproductive organs in mammals. this is very scarey and sad. as a human race we appear to be very arrogant. i rely on Jehovah God to handle this. he says man cannot direct his own steps. we are so wonderously made. i am in awe each time i look at an article on dna. He also promises to fix the earth. His purpose to have a paradise and fill it with healthy people has not changed. its just not time yet. JMHO i have had to feed cheap feed lately. i think the gmo corn is causing hair loss in my stock. we will be able to go back to real food next month. we just used the last of a 900 pound bag of screanings. it used to be non-gmo, not anymore. i am excited to go back to a better diet for them. i also suspect my pigs and cows not breeding back is the corn. one documentary has a pig farmer. he always bred his sows. he had a excellent breeding rate. he had to cut costs and went to gmo corn. no bred sows. he quit breeding and buys weaners. now he was a large grower. he blames the feed. i think its great that so many farmgirls here are taking a stand against foof that is NOT food. again may i say this is only my humble opinion. happy days to you

So many other countries have banned GMO crops! There is a reason. I know why the USA has not banned any or labeled any for that matter...MONEY! If we get educated and stop purchasing anything with GMO's in it we can hit them in their pocketbooks. This is how the hormone that used to be in milk was taken out. People stopped buying it. You would be surprised at how many products contain GMOs. Even the meat you buy in your grocery store has it due to the fact the animals were fed GMO feeds. I have an app on my I-phone called True Food that helps me identify GMO products. I also have been shopping at my local Co-Op for my staple foods. They carry only non GMO and organic products. The main products that contain GMOs are corn, soy and canola. These products are in everything! Also stear clear of artificial sweeteners. I keep watching for this documentary to be released on Netflix or ITunes again.

I am definitely against GMOs and unfermented soy. I have sent many messages to our president and representatives, begging them to support organic farmers. Monsanto is so big and it's hard to fight them and win. They have sued organic farmers, claiming that they stole their GMO seeds when, in fact, GMOs were carried onto their organic crops from Monsanto fields via bees or wind drift. Monsanto was actually ruining the organic crops. Most European countries have banned GMOs and also discourage intake of unfermented soy products. It's sad that the United States government doesn't care more for the health of its citizens. Regarding GMOs, does anyone know which bread manufacturers use or do not use GMOs? It's a guessing game since the U.S. government does not require labeling of GMO products. I try to buy organic breads and flours, but it's not always possbile since I have to travel to another town to shop at Whole Foods. Organic selections are limited at my local grocery stores.

I posted my original message about the bill that would allow Monsanto to continue planting its GMO crops on Garden Gate, but, since Fiddlehead Farm started the GMO topic here, I want to post some more important info. It appears that big giant Monsanto won again and others will soon follow in their footsteps, i.e., Dow Chemical, etc. To learn more about this, visit the Food Democracy website: http://fooddemocracynow.org/blog/2013/mar/21/senate_caves_monsanto_wins/ or just do a search for Food Democracy. This ruling will also affect the seed patents. Very disturbing. Big businesses like Monsanto have the politicians in their hip pocket and with them it's the money that matters, not the health of U.S. citizens and the livelihood of small farmers.
