For the last 8 weeks I have been covering to a maternity leave at work. So I am working 4 fulls days every week plus volunteering my time at a free clinic on Friday mornings. With 3 kids still at home, sports, church, hubby, pets., and the house. I'M EXHAUSTED! I have not cooked s meal all week. I have running and grabbing deli or subs.
How do you gals that work full-time get it all done? I just feel so behind on everything. And hubby thinks I am acting spoiled. (I am!) But I can not wait to go back to working 2 days a week.
Maybe I am just being a big baby, but I just can't handle being away from the house that much. I start feeling anxious, and sick and crabby. I am a very reclusive person to begin with. So I work part-time to keep up my person- skills. (LOL)
Just venting a bit. thanks Arttie

I understand Arttie, if I am away from my home too long I get out of focus. Being home settles me and soothe my soul. Keep up the good work, and focus on the fact that this will pass soon! Blessings

A long time ago I was told. "Look at the rose in the vase not the dust on the table." I cant remember who said it. Not everything was going to get done. And dust bunnies like to mess with your mind.LoL!!! Hugs Marlee

Hi Arttie,
I hear you on that one - and I think most women out there who have important priorities are in the same position. I am away from home 50 hours per week (40 at work, and 10 commuting to and from) and find it unbearable. Unfortunately, until I find a job closer to home, I can't forego the income because the bills need to be paid! We find a way to get through it somehow - and I find comfort in the fact that almost every situation is temporary. It may not be right this moment, but we are more than capable of making decisions (large or small) that will put us in better control of our lives and schedules. And in the meantime, like Nini said, some area of your life is going to have to take a backseat. For instance, to even be functional at work I am ignoring most of the housework until the weekend, when I go around for 1 hour and do basic dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, wiping. This is also when I have to do my meal planning for the week and grocery shopping (because otherwise it feels like a major punishment to have to do shopping after work when I am already hungry and tired)! If I have time, I do a load of laundry during the week (the rest waits until the weekend). Dishes get done every night after dinner, usually by me. And that's about it. You just have to pick the tasks that are essential to you, and make sure they get done. Everything else can either be picked up by other family members, or just pretend they didn't happen! I informed my husband that I will no longer be doing his laundry, because frankly he did not seem to appreciate how long it takes to get it done right. So I told him, "you're a big boy, so you can do your own until you appreciate the process a bit more!" :) My parents each do their own (so do all my aunts and uncles) and I don't have time to untangle, sort, spot clean, wash, dry, fold, and put away his stuff plus mine. I was initially doing it to be nice but don't have the patience for it anymore, plus he throws it around and gets it dirty almost immediately afterward, which is too frustrating! So that is one less thing making me feel hectic. A new demand on my time this year is a grad class this semester which has a huge workload of reading and papers to do, so I am definitely burning the candle at both ends. But I felt it was necessary to try, so I am really making an effort to do well there. My poor husband and dog are not receiving as much attention as I'd like to be able to give right now, but I am applying for new jobs like it's nobody's business. Working locally will definitely give me more resources, time and energy to devote to home and school. So with any luck things will change soon for you. Who knows - maybe the lady you are covering for right now will be able to repay you a favor of some kind at work once she is back. I am sure she appreciates all the help you are giving the company on her behalf. Good things come to good people! Hang in there :)

Nini, you have your hands full, unfortunately your not alone. It's not easy, but there is alot of good advice here. You need to take an hour for yourself everyday, even if it is a bath with headphones on to block it all out, and recharge your batteries. Is giving up your volunteer time an option right now until the kids get drivers license or something? Please keep us informed, and you are in my prayers.

when i worked full-time I found it really usefull to batch cook once or twice a month . Chillis , curries , casseroles etc, anything you can cook up in a huge pot, portion up and freeze. Initially its a little more time consuming ( although tbh it wasnt too bad ) but the reward to come home and just re-heat was worth it. Also i got quite used to sitting in front on the tv in the evening peeling the veggies, sounds silly but I still do it to this day :)
So much to do, so little time :) |

Well, I thought I was all caught up over the weekend and fully prepared for another week. But alas.....one day in and I am totally overwhelmed.
Hubby is helping out with meals a little more this week. And I have forewarned the kids that they will be helping out more. So hopefully, it will go better.
My saving grace is that the gal on maternity leave will be coming back soon. And my doctor is going on vacation for 2 weeks. Which means i will have some time off.
I know I sound whiney.....I am so grateful to have my job and love it very much. I love my co-workers and my doctor. But everyone in the office is feeling very tired right now. Maybe it is the winter blues.
I do think winter is getting the best of us all this year. We have had terrible weather....so getting outside has been more difficult than past years.
Thanks for all the kind words. Arttie |

Thanks, CJ. Relief is coming soon. I was talking with my doctor yesterday and he made some 'executive decisions' that will make my job easier. And the also made decision regarding my schedule. He is a great man. He always puts his employees and family first. And wants us to all be happy and healthy.
He also has a small farm and animals, so he knows how much work goes into our homes and lifestyles.
So hopefully soon the changes will take place. It is also good to know that I'm not the only one struggling with the overscheduled, overworked issue. I think sometimes I have those 'poor me's moments and forget others are dealing with the same thing.
Thanks all. Arttie |

Artie, Hang in there. Sounds like you have a great boss. I, too, am away from home about 50 per week like Kate. My DH and DS have had to chip in and do more around the house. It's not easy. My sewing has had to take the backseat. I am focusing right now on work, home, animals and garden. Sounds like things should be changing for the better for you. Hugs!

I also work 50+ hours per week... I garden and Can, but within limits! I don't have kids at home any more, and no pets or livestock, so that frees up some time. I just try not to be too hard on myself, and my secret weapon is my cleaning lady who comes every other week. My dear husband also helps a lot-, although once I recover from this hip replacement he will probably expect me to do more for myself.
