I think i'm getting one. I had a sinus headache 4 days now. And have had several migraines in past week. I use a nasal spray with bactroban( to help prevent infections). But I feel allergies have been bad and now feel like I'm getting sinus infection. Due to thyroid disease and adrenal issues I can't take cortisol sprays or sudafed type meds. If anyone has some ideas how to get rid of this sinus headache and what herbs/supplements I can take to help me. I'm taking 1000mg of VitC daily.

I second gramadinah with the nettie pot. Also steam with eucalypyus oil will help open up your sinuses as well. |

I agree with Diana too. The Neti pot is wonderful. I have started wearing a dust mask when I go out and trim the bushes or pull weeds. That helps prevent sinus infections. For quick relief I take children's Benedryl, just a tiny bit, to control any sneezing. I am trying a new natural remedy called Three Spices Sinus Complex. It has Ginger Root, Long Pepper Fruit and Black Pepper Fruit along with dehydrated honey. So far so good. Get better soon so you can smell the spring flowers that are coming. Terri

Neti Pot lover here too!!! I can't tell you how many times using it has really calmed and cleared my nasal passages. It is better than any medicine I take. Although, as natural as I want to be...I do advocate for serious pain and trouble functioning...going to the doctor and getting some antibiotics if it develops into a sinus infection. You will know you have one partly because of the headaches, but also facial pain in the sinus region. Hope you feel better soon. Hugs, Erica |

Tara, that sounds miserable! You poor thing! Sometimes the simplest remedies like those Grandma would've used are the ones that work best. If the air is dry in your home, that could be aggravating the situation. I am wondering if a vaporizer would help soothe your irritated sinuses, too? Even a small pot of water on a radiator might be helpful. And maybe some warm compresses will help with the headache? I don't know if this will help at all, but I used to get headaches all the time and my eye doctor told me to take magnesium. It worked wonders, but I'm not sure of the dosage - I haven't needed it for a long time, thankfully. I sure hope you find relief soon - I feel so badly that you're suffering like this! Hugs - Nini

Warm compresses on the face help to relieve pain. Do you have one of those small handheld massage things? If so, you can hold it on your face and massage it to get things draining. You can also alternate between pushing against the roof of your mouth with your tongue, and pressing just above your nose bridge with your finger. You should be able to feel the bone rocking back and forth slightly, this will help your sinuses to drain as well. And fresh raw garlic will help prevent or get rid of any infection.

I also agree with the Neti Pot. I suffered sinus headaches for year and it seemed like everyday I was taking Tylenol Sinus. The Neti Pot and keeping hydrated worked for me. I think maybe once every other month I actually take any sinus medicine (if that). Warm compresses like Lindsey suggested too!

I use a hypertonic seawater spray (nasal) that is made by the same company that makes the neti pot. I love it.
Also, I read that Red Zinger Tea (Celestial)is great to fight of sinusitis. I'm giving it a try with my family, as we are all suffering. It contains rose hips that are loaded with Vit. A and C.
I stay away from sugary drinks and try to stick with water, ginger tea, and so forth. Wine is a horrible on the sinuses. Any alcohol at all should be avoided. It messes with the sinuses and dehydrates your body.
Also, gargle with warm salt water. It helps break up the mucus.
Another thing is drinking tea made from Thyme (if you already have an issue with mucus). It breaks it up and clears it from the lungs and intestines.
I'm not a doctor F.Y.I....just sharing what works for us.
