Ha, ha, Laura! We are mucking around in mud as well. And, "springtime in the Rockies" here in SW Colorado is very traumatic. And, I'm sure you know what I mean. We'll have snow, rain, sleet and sun all in the same day, and several times over in the same day. Then we'll get frosts and freezes and wind, wind and more wind!
And, amidst all of that we'll see green and growing things, lambs, calves and all kinds of other things that make us smile.
But, in the meantime, we're up to our patookies in mud!!!
Don't let it suck you under!

LOL! OMGOSH same here ... only today I got a break, it's frozen ... back into the mud next week tho.

Isn't it crazy? You think, oh I can't wait for it to warm up and it ends up being so GROSS. And it always smells, too.
We haven't started to get to the mud state yet. We just started thawing today. It is a rip-roaring 33 degrees. With almost an hour of sunshine so far! We have been snow-covered and fog-engulfed for two months...

Wow. And I thought I had it bad here. At least I have some green here. And we froze too. I like walking on frozen mud better. I hope you dry out soon.

I'm glad you girls got a kick out of it. I was feeling sort of guilty about posting such unpleasant pics, but I'm glad to here so many of you ladies are understanding. I sure am looking forward to spring for real. Its like a sheet of ice in the morning when I feed and goopy mud in the evening. It's a chore trying to move quick enough to not get trampled. Some of them have to get it on the noggin with the bucket sometimes.

I am almost pining for mud! Almost. We have sheets of ice everywhere and even my horse is getting a bit footsore from walking on it. Walking to the barn is an exercise in balancing properly.
We had oodles of snow, then it warms durning the day, melts and freezes at night. I've opened up the other pastures which are still covered in snow so my guy can at least walk normally for a bit.
I know I'm going to regret saying this, but I'm looking forward to the mud.

It's drying up a little, just in time for more snow on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, then we'll start all over. I am grateful for it though, I really am. And used to it. And yes it is a sign of spring! Better than Dec and January frozen tundra. That is when it starts to get old and feel confining.

Looks February is the mud season there in the rockies. The sky is beautiful, as is the horses and yes, even the mud!

The mud season in the Colorado Rockies is ALL spring! Our weather is a constant menu variety of snow, rain, sleet, wind and all of that in the same day, several times over. It's pretty much the way of things until May. We usually get a little dry, warm up in May HOWEVER, here there is ALWAYS a late freeze. Folks get antsy and plant their gardens during that May warmup . . then the "you-can-count-on-it" annual late freeze comes, usually in early June! We NEVER plant our plants in the garden until after my hubby's birthday which is June 9th.
We just got about another foot of snow here in SW Colorado, so we will be having another round of snow melt and mud mucking. . . but we are also counting on our state not burning up with wildfires like it did this past summer.

Yup same here CJ. Another round. Our last freeze date is June 10th. I plant some stuff early and if it suvives I get a head start if not then I just plant again. But how things go for me is if I plant it will surely freeze late..lol. Our first freeze in the fall is Sept 10th. It is so frustrating when I have a garden full of tomatoes about to turn green. I pick them and put them in a paper sack to ripen but is so much better when they ripen on the vine. I have a little garden here on the south side of my house sort of on high ground and sometimes I get a few extra days with it. 2 years ago we had an unusual year and my little cherry tomatoes made it to Nov before they froze. It was so cool!
