I find it easiest to make stuff for the bath. Moisturizing brown sugar scrub and lavender vanilla bath salts were this year. They are both super easy and I usually have the ingredients on hand. Put them in a canning jar and cut a piece of fabric (theme of your choice or scrap like I have) to put under the ring and viola',you have presents that didn't cost much and especially women seem to like getting stuff for baths. :)
Brown sugar scrub:
1 c Brown sugar
Coconut oil - enough when melted to make the brown sugar good and moist but not too runny
honey - just a little melted in with the oil
vanilla extract - or your choice of essential oil but I like vanilla with the brown sugar and coconut
Lavender bath soak:
Epsom salts
Lavender flowers
Essential oil of lavender
Vanilla bean
I put the lavender flowers and vanilla bean in a muslin/linen bag in a large canning jar and pour the epsom salts in. You can add a few drops of essential oil if you want to kick start the scent but if you leave it sit all the smells get absorbed by the salt. I usually sprinkle a few of the flowers throughout the salt too to make it pretty. Just not too many or else they clog up your bath. These can be made with whatever kind of flowers you have or essential oils you have too.
I try to include directions, an old silver spoon for a scoop, and sometimes a handmade cotton wash cloth with these. Fast, easy, cheap, and fun to make and use.

Katrina,
My daughter made the face scrub for gifts and it is absolutely wonderful! Her cousin was happy to recieve as the stuff she has been buying is so expensive. She says the homemade stuff feels better.
I've been giving some thought to my gifting list. I'm not just working on Holidays but want to do more for the everyday special events.
Knitting needles and sewing machine are heating up!
It would be wonderful to start adding pictures or links to share so we all could get our creative juices flowing!

This is great. I plan to do a homemade Christmas for 2013. When I told my family this Christmas, I was very surprised that they were all excited. I thought they would think I was being cheep (mostly my kid sister, she's very high dollar type) I plan on making raggied- Ann type dolls for the girls and home accents (table runners/ place mats ect..) for the grown ups. The boys and guys will be harder. They all love the blankets I make, but they all already have one. So I will have to think that through, or maybe get some good ideas here!
Looking forward to see what others are making, and I hope to post pics when I finish things.
oh- I just got a book on knitted Christmas bulbs for my tree next year, 55 different designs...maybe if I do one a week....maybe...

Depending on their jobs Shanda the bath salts may be a good guy present.
My DH is a trash man, he's on his feet ALL day for 14 to 16 hours a day. He uses bathsalts to soothe his feet when he comes home.
For my little brothers the adults I gave them rummed cherries (from MJF magazine), and for the under 21's I gave them strawberry jam. They were ALL very happy to get either one!

Yeah the great thing about home made jams is they really have multiple uses. Jam of course, for toast, sandwiches etc. But, they are good enough quality that they also can be good for a ice cream topper (IE my family loves home made strawberry jam on good vanilla ice cream!), on cheese cake, on regular cake, etc etc. So they can get a lot of mileage out of a jar of home made jam.

You just reminded me about the canned goods. Thank you! I've done that in years past but didn't this year since I moved and didn't get to harvest my garden before we moved. :( I always liked doing apple butter, elderberry syrup, and pickles for gifts along with the jams and jellies.
I've also ended up making a lot of my gift bags out of scrap fabric. They are sturdy for the canned goods that I give and inexpensive for me. The best was the year I found a Christmas book pattern remenant for sale at Walmart. I think I paid about $1 for the remenant and made two or three gift bags out of the book pages. Some cute story about Frosty I think. That was several years ago so I can't remember for sure.
Hopefully I get the garden going again this year so I have some yummies to gift. I can't wait to see all the ideas here too.

mmm I like the pickle idea. I may do that this year too. I especially like unusual pickles (veggies you can't get at walmart pickled! lol).

I love pickled turnips. The only way I like them and when they are mixed with things like carrots it makes a pretty jar of goodies.

Thanks for the brown sugar scrub recipe. i am going to give it a try. do you have to use the coconut oil, or would something like olive oil work?

Olive oil, jojoba oil, and almond oil will all work too. I happened to use coconut oil this time because I had some. I usually use olive because I always have that in the house. :) You can also use white sugar or salt. Just depends on the texture you want.

This year, everyone is getting a new pillow case. You can use any print you want and make them masculine, feminine or kid friendly. One gift serves for all. Besides, as I get older, we got all the stuff we need anyway.

Hi Bonnie, I did pillow cases last Christmas. I put their gifts in the pillow case. Tied the top with a pretty bow, and cut out the first letter of their name and tied it on, for a gift tag. Turned out really cute. Cut the letters out with a cricut, and did a shadow of the letter too. Looked fancy.
