They passed a chicken ordinance! You can keep up to five hens and one rooster. There is an small annual fee and your coop has to be approved, but you can now legally keep chickens in town! (people have been doing it but very discreetly). So maybe there's Silkies in my future (I love the way they feel and they're so darn cute). I wonder if Boxer would mind sharing his yard with chickens? He's great with my two pet birds so I know he wouldn't hurt them. I've been buying my eggs from a co-worker and the yolks are so big and orange--not like the store kind. And the eggs are different sizes and shapes. Hooray for backyard chickens!

My niece is now fighting with her home owners association, after winning her battle with the city, about her 3year daughters pet chicken Smartie, Smartie leaves in a dog crate at night, and play's with the children and runs around in the flower beds all day, never leaving the yard, she has her toe nails painted and enjoys watching TV, with her diaper in place. They have been interviewed by newspapers and even been on TV news. She needs help fighting to be able to keep Smartie, any ideas?

I hope she gets to keep Smartie. Keep us posted. If I were her, I'd just call Smartie a dog, and keep her in the house. I'd love to see Smartie's painted nails.

Woo hoo Cindy! I'm glad your city finally relented. Post pictures when you finally get your flock.

Roxanna, sounds like Smartie is a pet and I don't believe any homeowners association will outlaw a pet. A chicken maybe but not a PET. I think she should not refer to Smartie as anything other than a pet! Just an idea.

If you want to see Smartie go to www.thecoastalsource.com, and click on Bluffton woman cited for diaper-wearing chicken. Roxanna
