I looked up this morning, and noticed that grease was dripping (ugh) down the molding at the top of the kitchen cabinets.
So I got a ladder (I'm super short) and checked it out. UGH. There was a nasty accumulation of grease, dust bunnies, and uck all over the tops of the cabinets. This is the worst I've ever seen. I think it has something to do with the fact that we got a new gas range, and the hood fan just doesn't keep up with it.
Anyway, I took down all the knick-knacks and started soaking them in dishwater. I tried several things to cut the grease - vinegar, Castile soap, windex. Nothing was working.
So I went back to my tried and true - baking soda mixed with liquid castile soap (Dr. Bronners) to form a paste. With a Scotch-brite sponge, I got all the goober off, and then rinsed with a damp rag. I had to use the paste on some of the knick-knacks too! (these are mostly antique kitchen items, old jars, sifters, plates, tins, etc)
So now it looks much better. The kitchen smells better. And I'm going to go have a cup of coffee on the porch!

Isn't it crazy how sometimes the hidden stuff gets so dirty and when you clean it you realize how nice that area smells now? I just did that with our laundry area in the basemet and was surprised! It went from having that "old" basement smell to nice and fresh!

I have that on my list - clean upper cabinets. Going to try your "recipe"!
I cleaned the fridge that's in our basement. We use it for "over flow" foods or when we entertain. It was bad. Gross! I used washing soda and warm water. It was amazing how clean it got the fridge and it smells so much better!
