For the first time in 3 years we've gotten a really decent crop out of the "orchard"(2 apple trees & a peach tree). Our trees are old, I'd say probably pushing 40 years or more based off of when the house was built, so it's always hit or miss if they decide to produce.

The peaches are at the end of this years crop, I'll probably get one more half bucket and that's about it. The apples, particularly the green ones look like they will probably keep going for quite a while. We had a storm come through early this morning and knock off most of the red apples. I ended up having to go out right afterwards and pick them all up, otherwise we wouldn't have gotten any! There is still some but they are at the very top of the tree and I don't have any way to get to them :-(

I can't wait until we move because I am planting a HUGE orchard :-D

Awesome, Nicole! I wish we could have an orchard, too... A few years ago, we planted this great apple tree in our front yard... Instead of enjoying the harvest, three years in a row we sat in our front window watching passers by and not-so-sneaky neighbors plucking our tree clean.. Although we were mad (If they had let the fruit grow to ripen, we would've shared! Heck, if they had ASKED, we would've shared!), they were pretty funny. One afternoon I watched an entire family - husband, wife and five little kids - struggle to pick whatever they could and stick everything in socks and pockets. Unbelievable. On another occasion, this one older lady came up after church on a brisk Sunday morning - dress and heels and hat and all - with two big handled paper bags... with her back to our house, she tried to be very nonchalant as she slowly, gently let them to the ground. We were amazed when she started picking the lower branches with her hands over her head and behind her back - she never turned around! Not even for a second! For as flexible as she was at her age, and because she was just so darned funny and amazing to watch, we just let her have at it! LOL! If you could've seen her, you would've died! LOL! Ah, well, the perils of living in a small city! LOL! Sadly, the tree died after a really bad winter, so now we just visit the orchard every year, and some friends of ours have a nice grouping of trees in their backyard that they are more than happy to have us glean... But OH, if I had a little bit of land, it'd be fruit Heaven! :) I'm so happy for you that your elder trees are still producing! What a joy! Hugs - Nini

Thanks for sharing the pictures.
