We discovered a raspberry patch at our new farm. We moved here in December and the farm was not lived in for 5 years before that. The berries in the raspberry patch are HUGE, some could qualify as small strawberries! Some of the plants have small berries though, which got me wondering, what determines the size of the berries? Does it have anything to do with the plants not being picked from for five years before this, or does it just depend on the plant?

There is a size difference between wild and tame raspberries. Could be you have both in your patch. Tame ones are much much bigger then wild.

For our wild ones, water and heat are factors in their size. The more water, the more plump. Most that grow near the ground are also a bit larger.
