Have been wondering how the weather is for all you farm girls out there, here in Ky it is so very dry, the corn fields are mostly dried up, My husband has been putting tank fulls of water on the garden, so far we are keeping it alive, my pretty flowers are almost dried up, seem like even though I am putting plenty water they just look scalded and dried up, no rain in sight

We haven't had rain in over a month. I had tomatoes in those Topsy Turvy planters and they're drying up even though they've been watered plenty. Hubby says it looks like the vines have been cooked and I guess that's true. Some of the flowers are still alive but not by much. Now I'm happy we decided to let the garden plot stay unplanted this year. I don't think we could pay the water bill if we'd planted. As it is, I'm really worried about the next electric bill...it's going to be a whopper!

Nancy good to hear from you, P planted three tomatoes in large tubs here at the house, have had good luck with them and Sterl brought in our first corn tonight. I hope the pond holds up until we get rain. We have well water along with city water but when we water its like they are scalding

We know we are 3-4 years into a drought. We have mild winters and have given up most gardening until the fall. I have a few plants that I keep going but most have died off. The ones that are alive are out of the sun.

We haven't had rain in over a month either and the temps are over 100! Very unusual for Wisconsin. We have been breaking records daily. My garden is doing fine, I have to water it daily. My rain barrels have been empty for quite a while. Usually we are very green and temps are in the 80's at this time of year. I am worried about the farmers. The corn and soybeans are not doing very good.

As "across the lake" neighbors I can say our situation is exactly the sme as Diane's. No rain format least a month now. It's awful :(
And to top that all off, West Michigan, which is known for its fruit production got hit by a real hard freeze this spring and lost 90% of its fruit crop this year, So the weather has just been particularly harsh all around for us this year. :(

I'm really close to Diane, so same thing. Not too worried about the yards because they just pretty up the place, but they are so dry they look like wheat fields. The weather channel says there's "chance of rain" at least once or twice a week. The sky turns gray and I pray that there will be rain.......nothing. Garden is holding up pretty good. Water it daily, but you can see the heat is taking its toll. Like Diane, I worry about the farmers. The corn plants are so stressed. The leaves stick up and are spikey.....not like I'm used to seeing.
Julie, I've been thinking about you guys in Texas. I know last year there were truck loads of donated hay going out of Wisconsin to Texas for the cattle.
I worry about the heat we are going through, but then I am reminded of the wildfires on the west coast and storms on the east coast and I am very, very thankful.
Praying for all of those that are being affected by weather conditions.

We need rain, but thankfully it looks like we'll get some today. We got a sprinkle of rain yesterday, but not enough to help.

No rain here either. You've heard about the wildfires in Colorado due to drought conditions, Wyoming is the same and has about 10 wildfires of it's own burning now. We don't make the national news thought, not enough "voters". Seems like the whole country is lacking water and breaking temperature records. Next thing you know we'll be hearing of a new "dust bowl". DH has been working up in ND so we didn't plant a garden this year. Just as well looks like.

They're predicting a possible high of 108 tomorrow, which will break the old record of "only 102" set back in the dust bowl of 1936. My dad says he remembers that summer. My coneflowers are drying up and they're native, prairie flowers which normally tolerate drought well. i had to buy a soaker hose for my blackberries. I have one tomato plant in a pot that I'm managing to keep alive, though no tomatoes yet. My backyard has so many dead leaves that I may have to rake it, I kid you not. I worry about my friends who have animals like llamas and alpacas, which can easily die in this heat. It' horrible. It's supposed to reach only into the double digits on Sunday, the first"cool" day since I can't even remember.And there's a 50/50 chance of rain on Sunday. Rain, I think I remember what that is. the whole country is burning up, yet no one will talk about the obvious. it ain't going to get better, not unless we change our way of life.
I pray the world comes to its senses before it's too late.

It is so strange here in Hawaii. I always think of Hawaii as hot, beach weather. It isn't at all. It is 83 degrees but the tradewinds blow all the time so this Florida girl (who is used to heat and humidity) is actually a little chilly. We were at the beach yesterday afternoon and I had to put my shirt on over my suit due to the wind. The Hawaiians are complaining about the humidity and I laugh inside myself.
The drought is bad this year and I know the farm in NC is a little worried about the corn crop. They took 60 dozen ears to the farmers market last weekend and sold it all but they have many acres of corn and soybeans to harvest yet. Praying for rain. Joey

| supposed to go down to 80 next week, after 97 it'll feel like fall ! maybe then I can take the kids out to do something, nobody wants to go out when it's 90-100 degrees outside |

oh my girls, your posts are scary to me. i watch very little news. no cable here. so had no idea it was this bad. i think i will change my plan. i was skipping canning this year. well now food will get even higher. so i will start today putting up food. we are just now getting heat. so today 94 tomorrow 98. so summer has hit the high desert. i am saddened to hear how your gardens are. i remember the first spring posts of hope. tilling/ raking/ planting. so i am sending hugs, love and a prayer for you all.

Kansas is no better. The hay crew is out there now. We'll get about half what we got last year. #2 son lives 2 mi up the road. They can't find any hay for sale. Thinking about selling a bunch of their cows. The price of cattle is way down from what it was. Isn't that how it goes?
I am watering the garden every morning. I am out there until just before I get TOO hot. Then I turn on the soaker hose. One day it goes on the blue berrys, then the raspberries, then the watermelons. The tomatoes, peppers, squash and cucumbers are all doing well. About once a week, I have to add some water to the water garden. The only thing that is thriving in this hot sun is the water lillies. Too bad we can't eat those. But I can sure enjoy them while I stand at the sink "doing" tomatoes.
