Any great ideas to make my own plant stakes with the name of the herbs on them? I need to remind my daughter what everything is.

Thanks! Jennifer

Painted rocks, Popsicle sticks, or my favorite - old spoons stamped with letter dies. :)

Somewhere (maybe MJF?) I once saw the cutest little plant labels made out of twigs... The person whittled back some of the bark about 2" from the top, and then branded in the letters (you could probably use permanent marker, though). Next they wrapped craft wire and tiny glass beads around the "stem" and up towards the top of the twig. SO lovely, SO natural, SO perfect! Whatever you decide to do, Jennifer, please do post pictures! I am always so inspired by farmgirl creativity! :) Happy creating! - Nini

I think the metal markers last the longest. But I usually use popsicle sticks, too.

A lady from my church uses old venetian blinds, the wide ones. She cuts them to the desired length and writes on them with a permanent marker. They can be wiped clean and stored away to use again. I found some hefty, long white plastic markers at Home Depot --- a bunch in a bag for just $2.95. Much cheaper and easier for me than searching the Goodwill stores for old blinds

I go to Home Depot's paint department and, with permission from the clerk who doesn't really care one way or the other, I grab up bunches of wooden paint stirrers in both regular and large sizes. I write identifying info on them in black Sharpie. They're sturdy, and easy to read from a standing position. When the harvest is over, they go into the compost bin.

I think if you do the popsicle sticks and let the kids do it they would love it. I like the spoon idea but, have not tried that. I have the metal ones and I write the herb names on that.

I've used plastic knives. Write the name on both ends and if one get's bleached by the sun you still know what it is if you pull it out.

God bless,
