Hi girls -
Back in April, we saw a few of the usual territorial bumblebees that guard their favorite neighborhood lilacs... But we had a couple of really hard freezes and since then, no sign of the bees that usually buzz through all the flowers. Do you think the freeze kill them off? Will they come back this summer? Is something more serious happening? Should we be concerned? Is there anything we can do? It's a little disconcerting to see some of our flowers blooming and not hear the familiar happy buzz of our little black-and-gold friends... I'm a little sad, but also very concerned. Is there anything I can do to "lure" some of them back? (I'd try bee keeping, but we're not allowed to do so in town.) Should I start looking into how to go about pollinating our garden food plants ourselves? 'Just wondering what your take is on this...
Thanks!

Hi Nini, I wish I had an answer for you. I am not sure if the freeze would kill them off at that time of year. I am thinking no, but I really dont know for sure- just guessing. I hope someone can answer your questions, and I sure do hope that before long you are hearing that heavenly buzzing throughout your gardens! Hugs,

We have plenty of bees here in Louisiana. Our fruit trees are budding and the bees are busy, busy, busy! I hope some of ours get to your area. Marly
