I just mailed the artwork to her so she is waiting on that and will then get all the copies made and bound together. It should be any time now.

Diane is still working out the details to get a good price on printing and shipping. She's got a few more details to workout and then will post her findings. Once we get it all ironed out I don't forsee any reason why these wont be ready for Christmas. Diane has really done a great job putting all of this together.

My apologies for not keeping you gals more up-to-date on what's going on. I keep thinking I'll have all the information really soon and then something else comes up.
So here is where we are at, at the moment: The finished hardcopy is sitting here on my dining room table, awaiting Julie's artwork which should be here anyday. In the meantime, I calculated the costs based on doing the copying and collating myself (thinking I'd be making it cheaper). The copying costs including cerlox binding and taxes came to $12.77 and I was quoted $6.48 for the envelopes and shipping which made for a total of $19.25. Ouch! The young girl at the post office I spoke to said the cost of shipping would rise exponentially...$64.80 to ship ten books??? I doubt it!! So I'm off to a different post office on Monday to get better information! In the meantime I have contacted a local publishing company and will get a price from them on Monday. There HAS to be a cheaper way to do this.
I will post an update at the beginning of the week.

Diane,
Are the prices they are giving you for shipping, media mail? because 6.48 does seem high.

If you haven't gotten a quote already from Morris Cookbooks or Fundcraft or one of the other fundraising cookbook publishers, it might be another way to go. Do you need to have an estimate of how many you will sell before getting the quote? I would think the biggest costs at the printer are going to be the setup costs and then the price per book goes down based on the quantity going up..

I think Morris would be the cheaper way to go too based upon quantities. Media rate would be cheapest as well on shipping. just my 2 cents.

Newbie here! My stomach is rumbling just thinking about the cookbook - yum!

Media mail is the cheapest rate for sure, but it comes at a cost as I found out last month...did you know the USPS has the authority to open and inspect every item marked Media Mail, which can delay shipping time even further? I sold some books on eBay & shipped them MM. Then I started getting emails asking where the books were. More than two weeks later several buyers emailed me to say that the books had finally arrived, but the envelopes had been opened and there was a note stating that the items had been inspected. Now when I sell off old books, I ship them "bound printed matter" - it costs a bit more, but the package will arrive sealed & in a timelier manner.

PS Glad to be here, I am just so inspired by y'all

That's good to know Jennifer and I will keep that in mind when I attach the customs stickers to the books. And welcome!!
Meantime I have found that I can probably send this "letter post"...$1.78. That is certainly more reasonable and I will confirm on Monday at the post office.
Just to make sure there are no misunderstandings...I want this cookbook AFFORDABLE for everyone. Some of you have indicated you are fine with the price. Other's have said they won't be able to purchase the number of copies they had hoped. I just want everyone that would like a copy to be able to have one.
'Nuff said...I'll get back to you on Monday with the lastest. No worries, it will happen one way or n'other.

I received a quote this morning (Sunday?!..go figure) from a local publisher. I will talk with him by phone tomorrow morning, as my only question that remains is time frame to completion.
Anyway if he included all costs, which I think he did, we just might get this cookbook to everyone for under $10.
Sometimes my stubborn nature really does "pay" off (bad pun).

Wow, under $10 would be great! One more thing about media mail that I forgot to mention, yes the post office can open and inspect if there is reason too, media mail is for the book only,no letter, note nothing! Hope this helps.
