I am teaching my middle daughter russian needlepunch ( real simple). She has drafted her pattern and we will transfer it to fabric this week. then work on it. I was wondering how many people out there do this type of needle work it has had a resurgence (sp) in the last few years. People call it needlepunch now days instead of russian needlepunch.

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe

I remember seeing a lady doing this at a fair a few years ago. It was absolutely gorgeous. How lucky your daughter is to have such a great mom to teach her all these wonderful skills.

Sunshine - what is needlepunch? I've never heard of it, but I DO agree with Diane that your daughter is one lucky gal to be able to learn so much from you. Do you have any russian needlepunch that we could see?

here is a little bit of an idea
http://www.silverneedle.com/punchneedle.html
Sort of like punch rugging (which is similar to traditional rug hooking with burlap opposite side of the fabric).
But this is much smaller and used for clothing and house lines and wall art.

I checked out that site and it sounds so interesting and pretty - am I understanding it correctly that the design is raised a bit on the front - the raised part being from the loops? What a neat thing for your girls to learn!

Yes libbie you are right it is raised. You can even adjust the needle if you choose to to make it dimensional sort of like a sculpted oriental rug.

Sunshine, I began my first needlepunch project just yesterday--and wondered if some farmgirls weren't doing it! I bought the works--the hook set, a "pattern" which is actually stamped onto fabric, etc. I'd like to use one of the tin frames available to finish it as a gift (an early October birthday). Have you ever used a little frame like that? The store owner emailed me that the frame doesn't come with any directions... and I usually need a trial run before making some new idea to give as a gift.

It IS easy, although I did practice a few rows to get the evenness of loops worked out--not a big deal. Do you set your hoop on a table to work, or just use your lap? The direction say table; I like lap. If the project goes well, I hope to be able to take it as a portable project. My quilt is bed size and in a hoop-- and the little rug project really doesn't translate into a "waiting room" activity, either, with the frame. It's so much fun to learn a new stitching style.

Blessings,
Ann

I made one when I was about 7 years old have no idea what happened to it.

Nope have never used a tin fram but it sounds real cute. That will be a real nice birthday gift.

My daughter is making hers for an art show when it is all done she said she was going to give it to me as a gift I think that is neat. I promised her we would frame it real nice for her.

I do mine in my lap but am extra careful as I don't have the special frame they make now days for it. You know the elevated one I just use a traditional hoop which makes it a little tricky as you can stab your lap or under hand ( the one holding the hoop) if not careful.

It is super easy like you said my daughter is only 7 and it should be simple and fun and I made sure it was small so she could compleat it too. That is best when they are little.

If you are into making minuters( sp) ( little doll houses) they can make lovely rugs with this technique too.

this is one of the crafts that i like to do.
i bought all the supplies at a quilt show a couple of years ago.
wanted to learn to do this when i saw it as an embelishment on a wool cape that was just absolutely beautiful.
i agree your daughters are lucky to have you to teach them so many beautiful crafts.

i know what you mean, i would love to take some time and make me some dresses and i need some nighthgowns, but i dont enjoy sewing for myself cause there is the fitting and then i am quite large these days, since the thyroid disease it seems very hard to loose weight, and in the larger sizes there seems to be 2 styles moo and moomoo.
oh well, now im depressed, i think a hot fudge sundae would make me feel better. hehehehehehe.

I have had flannel waiting to be made into my new nightgown for winter since LAST fall. Hmmmm now that my old ones are getting a little too threadbare to be presentable and the long tee shirt looking ones won't be warm enough in a month or so I'd best get ON that project. Hopefully that pretty dark blue calico flannel wont' sit waiting another year. I love a nice warm flannel granny gown in winter. ( my kids call the old night gown "old Blue")

I posted a picture on my blog of my 7 year olds russian needle punch if you wouldn't mind looking at it and leaving a comment it would mean the world to her. She is one of those kids that thinks older sister always does things better and is real shy. Well older sister is very proud on little sister on this it is going in the school art show in dec. Big sister was sweet and said to her " If there where prizes at this show you would surley win!" I think that was just great a smile from ear to ear. So if you feel so inclined I would greatly appreciate comments amied at making a 7 year old happy the more the merrier so to speak. Happy to have them here and posted on the blog thanks.

thank you for reading this

Oh my goodness Sunshine! Your daughter puts me to shame! I'm just so impressed! What a lovely job she did! Is this her own design? Just wonderful!

It's so sweet that you can pass all these things on to your daughters. My boys of course aren't interested in all that. Their interest lies more in my other talent-COOKING! Maybe I will get a sweet daughter in law or grandaughter one day though. :)

I have been eyeing this "new" craft in all the magazines and itching to give it a try. I even found a punch needle kit (circa 1987), unused, at the thrift store for $1.50! Please tell your daughter she has inspired me to give it a try!
Blessings, Rhonda
