We finished up my new clothesline this last weekend. It turned out exactly how I imagined it would look. I can't wait to hang my sheets out on the line. I still need to mow a little buffer zone around it.

How cool! Will the clotheslines go over the glass things (can't remember the word right now--resistors?) |

Very cool looking Paula!!!!!!!! I like it. I'd like to see the hanging clothes on it when all is finished. Please, put us a picture. Thanks for sharing. Marly

I got to try it out yesterday. It was great! I should have taken some photos, but I was a little distracted by other things yesterday, and was sort of just going through the motions. By the time I got one load washed the load I had hung on the lines was already dry with the wind we had. We slept on outdoor fresh dried sheets last night...pretty nice!

Love it! I want to have a clothesline at the house we're moving to in Indiana, but seeing as there is basically 13 acres of hills I'm not sure if it's going to happen.

Insulators! Thanks, Sylvia.
My husband has a little collection of them...maybe I could talk him into using them for a project like this. So cool. |

I got those insulators for less than a dollar each from Etsy. I intentionally ordered a mix of sizes and colors to add interest. This is not my idea originally. In fact, I got the idea from an old, old thread on this forum about clotheslines!! Here is a photo of it in action. (Yes I still need to mow the prairie grass around it.)

I've been after DH to make me a clothes line for some time now. I just showed him the picture of yours and he said he'd be happy to make me one if he could make one that looked like that! High praise indeed!

Audrey, that is so cool! Let me know if you need any specifics on materials and measurements. Since I'm only 5 foot tall, the "telegraph lines" were made a bit lower to the ground than most folks would manage. Nothing at our place is level, so the further away post is actually about a foot taller than the one closer, in order for it to appear somewhat level. That required some of my husband's mysterious engineering magic and plumb lines. The cross pieces are 6 foot long 4 X 4's, and the lines are 1 foot apart from each other on each side of the post. I think I measured about 5 inches from either side of the the outer edge of the middle post to drill the first hole for the lag screw that the insulator and clothesline are attached to. Then every lag screw was 1 foot from the last one. The posts are 12 ft 4 X 6's that were cut so that they were 1 ft above the cross piece. I dug the holes 2 ft deep and we filled quick-crete in around the posts, just like fenceposts.

I just showed my husband. I told him I want one too. Moving to the country very soon with 2 acres.. and one of the first things on my list is a cloths line.... oh, and a chicken coop, among other things. I love the look of this cloths line. Thank you for sharing.
