The girl that works at the Mom & Pop close to me called, and asked if I could trim nails on a elderly mans dog, the dog was nervous around people, and did not walk on a leash she said, so they didn't want to try a groomers or the vet's.I said sure, so she met me at the mans house, introduced us, and then he went and called "Quake" (as in earthquake) to come in. This was probaly the biggest Pitbull i have ever seen, weel over a 100#'s, and I've been around them for most of my life. He walks in, looks me up and down, turns around and sits, ignoring me completly. So I walk over next to him, sit on the floor next to him, and ignor him, curiosity gets the best of him, he kinda wiggles over and around till hes facing me, takes his nose and lifts my chin up, looks into my eyes, then gives me the biggest, toothiest dog grin ever, and ever so gently licks my chin...I pick up a front paw, and play with his toes and nails, he thinks this is great, rolls over on his back and gives me his other paw, and I do the same to it...then I take my nippers, hold up a big toe, and clip the first nail, he is intently watching, and after I did the first one, he gives me a big sloopy pit kiss on the hand, so i go to the next, and we repeat this till all but one dew claw nail is left, and I discovered that nail has grown all the way around, back thru the toe, TWICE, so i carefully lay down next to him, and pull the toe out enough to be able to see well, clip and remove the first circle of ingrown, clip and remove the second circle of ingrown, suppess out the pocket of infection, swab the hole out with peroxide, pack it with neosporin, and we are done...not one wimper/whine or growl, no aggression, not a stiffening of the body ever, just lots of kisses and adoring eyes, i just love pits and most owners, what a true gentleman he was...

Quake knew that you loved him. By giving him a chance to inspect you, he did not judge you by the cover. What a beautiful thing you did. I love Pits and all dogs, cats, rabbits, etc...
Thanks for sharing Quakes story. Hugs to you.

Ouch! That poor dog must have been in so much pain as his nail grew around so much. I am so glad you were able to get him take care of! I like pits too- any dog had the propensity for violence if treated incorrectly.

Not a fan of pits but it makes no difference a good dog is a good dog. Sounds like a sweety giving you thank you kisses. Poor thing must have been in pain and smart enough to know you were helping him.

Excuse the mess & the noise, my children are making happy memories

I am trying to be the person my dogs think I am.

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
