So, my blog entry this week has to do with all the visitors I've had on my porch while living in my home. Funny thing, Tuesday I had TWO of the biggest ones ever (not wild) come a-knocking!

I was in the kitchen at the sink when I heard someone knock on the door behind me. I turned around thinking I would see a human, when it was the biggest, tallest Great Dane and it's friend, a Great Pyranees (spelling?) peering in the glass at me! I was shocked! They were both covered in mud like they had been roaming, but had collars. I opened the door to see if they were friendly. While I love, crazy-adore dogs, these were so huge, I did say a prayer that I might not get eaten while trying to find the number on their collars. They were sooo friendly and sweet, and I closed the gate so they could not run. I did not want them to get hit by a car, and I'd want someone to try to help my furbaby if she got lost.

The voicemail was full and no name matching the one on the tag was in the phonebook, so sadly I called animal control as a last resort. I did not want them to come out, but hoped that the owners had called in their missing pets. I was right! The animal control officer was a sweetheart, and told me that their mom was frantic looking for them. I called her, and she was so happy. Apparently, her toddler had let them out. They had traveled pretty far, so how they ended up on my door is a guess! Glad they did, though, as we are not afraid of big dogs!

It was fun to pet and play with them until their mom got here. The great dane was almost as tall as Audrey! It reminded me of a horse....it clopped when it walked! I've never seen such a giant dog, but she was soooo gentle. Guess I did my good deed for the day! Happy ending!

Aw! What a great story! I am grateful for kind people. Our dog Stormy got out when we lived in town and I was frantic looking for her. Appparently she followed some kids to school and someone near the school caught her and called animal control. They had her and we were able to get her before she was taken to the kill shelter for the county.

Nicole,
What an amazing story! Did they actually knock? They sure picked the right place to come for help.

I am trying to be the person my dogs think I am.

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

@Diane,

It was knocking...it was the Great Dane's tale as she peered in at me, ha ha! Her tail was just a wagging and hitting the glass!

That is awesome! So glad they had collars and tags, even though you couldn't reach them directly. It is always a good indication that they just "got out" when there are collars and tags and not that they had been dumped.
