Hi oh helpful farm girls, decided I would do some DECOPAGE, first of all I need to know how to spell it. Then this is what I have done so far. An adult shoe box is half done, waiting for it to dry so I can turn it over and continue, and a small box that jewelry comes in, half done. Now half done means I have glued pictures all over them with white glue. Got great pictures out of COUNTRY SAMPLER, AND COUNTRY MARKET PLACE, ETC, Now once they are all covered, what next?? several more layers of glue, or what? Got some cute little cupboard pulls ready to put on top for easy opening when they are done.
So any advise on this project? I like doing it so much I feel lots of future projects brewing in my head.

Usually people use modg podg for this as white glue dries a little milky. Try to keep bubbles out of your work. Normally you paint the item first to give you a nice solid background tacks less decoupage that way and faster. Some people sand between coats I don't . Drawer pulls are good I like the ones that dangle a little rather than nobs but that is a personal choice. It sounds actually like youa re almost done 1 or 2 more coats of glue.

Nancy Jo- I use Mod Podge as well when I decoupage. About 3-4 layers of it before the edges have disappeared. Be sure to post pictures of your little boxes!! They sound darling.

everyone here has covered just about everything as far as i can tell. i also use the modge podge. i dont sand between the layers either. i dont think there is a hard and fast rule on number of layers, but the more you do for some folks the better. make sure it is really dry between layers( you may have to use this drying time to do something else like garage saleing!)
anyway, your projects sound cute, please post pics if you can.

Hi Nancy Jo, I have used Elmer's white glue for all my projects! They turned out well. I have had a dresser for years, with - yes - little strawberries and african violets! I used wrapping paper and it was very thin. I just painted numerous layers of the glue, but did wait in between for drying!

THANKYOU ever so much, faithful farm girls. Sure could have used this site over the last MANY years for help on countless things, but glad its here now.
Guess you can decoupage on just about any surface can't you? What about glass?
Waiting now for it to get a bit more dry, so been working on a embroidery for a antique doll cradle, using up my left over yarn on an afghan, reading two books, Now I am very good at using my time, but I'am not doing these things all at the same time, just keep changing off.
Cooler today, so going to cook a yummy pork roast, and mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and STRAWBERRY BREAD. How about that berries?
Anyone have any more advise for me just pass it on to me, love all the help I can get.

Yes you can on glass ( plates and bowls ) but it is decorative thing not functional as a plate as it is not able to be washed. You decorate the back of the plate with the items facing away from you. you see the back while glueing. That way when you are done the picture face up when you flip the plate over. Also you work backwards the top items go down first and the bottom items go down last not like normal. i hope that made since.

About 5 years ago we ( women's group) did those white plastic stacking lawn chairs one time! We used paper napkins with 4th of july stuff on them and some did florals and decorated the chairs..not the seats...and used modge podge I think it was. They were sure cute and lasted really well. With the plastic surface we roughed it up a little with steel wool first so the design didn't slide around.

I do collage art ( just a fancy artist name for deocoupage) for resale, and I prefer Golden's Gel Medium (matte). I like the finish I get when dry preferable to Modge Podge. Just an FYI, Nancy.
There is a new book out with some fun collage ideas for newbies you should look at:
"Collage Lost and Found" by Guiseppina "Josie" Cirincione.

Hi Nancy and Katie,
I've been working for the first time in 25 years!Trying to put the last of the daughters through a very expensive University nursing school.It is exhausting but hey,I have lost 40 POUNDS so far!BONUS!
I make collage art out of cigar boxes,vintage papergoods from estate sales, old toys, photos, you name it.I have a blast doing it.Currently I am working on jewelry.Learning my way around a soldering gun.Which is hard when you were born with two left hands....
Katie, at the beach lately I found a vintage dog tag (the four legged variety) some cool scrap metal,lots of beach glass and shells and driftwood.
