Hubby and I were discussing fencing the back pasture in the next couple months but are extremely concerned about how much it will cost to run the electric fence. He suggested using a solar fencer. Has anyone used them? What do you think of them? Any tips?

Solar chargers are the way to go! We have them for the horses and the chickens. We've had the best luck with Parmak brand. Make sure you get it grounded well, so that it charges efficiently and keep the junk from growing in the fenceline. Since we use Electrobraid, we have intermittent chargers, not the weed-burner kind.

We use solar fencers all the time on small pastures. We use electric where we can and both work very well. The electric do not use as much power as you would think, but remember to remind the boys that if they touch it they will get a shock, it won't hurt them, but they will be suprised.
