I didn't know it existed till I read in the Ent. part.

I lived in a 35 ft. teepee years ago, off the grid and, other than my ex being there, I thought it was a perfect lifestyle. We had to haul water, of course, but it was so quiet and peaceful (except for the ex...). There is high tech, normal tech, low tech and no tech. We were no tech!! No bills other than gas to go to town and buying food and clothes.

Wow, so glad this section is here. Looking forward to reading more!

Welcome Winona, Are you living off the grid now? Living in a teepee I bet was fun. How did you cook and refrigerate? I am really interested.
Hope you enjoy Farmgirl and welcome again.
Linda

With lots of hugs and smiles, have a great day.

Not now. I live in a 2 storey cottage out in the woods though, 30 miles from town. Electricity, well water, propane for heating, cell phone and wireless modem.

Actually, except for the *(#$* ex, it was one of the happiest places I've lived. I had a little gas stove, I think it was a Coleman, and had some 5 & 7 gallon propane tanks. We had a propane refrigerator that could go either propane or electricity. I almost forgot, the wood stove could be used for cooking and heating. I got pretty good with a dutch oven.

The company that made the 'Dances with Wolves' movie teepees were the ones we used to make ours. It was tall enough for a second storey. The wind wasn't too bad because, we found, the cone shape, the wind just went around them. Pretty cool things you don't think of till you have seen it.

We used oil lamps, too. Those rascals give off a lot of light, amazingly so.

Current hubby and I have often thought, if times get too tough again, we know how to hit the back country and survive!! We do have a 5th wheel for 'just in case'. I'm not quite a prepper (as in TV show) but we are pretty prepared for about anything.

Actually, if we had known a yurt was available for making, we would have gone with that. Lots more usable room. We didn't know till too late, when we were looking at an acquaintance's yurt. Can't remember if it was the same company or not. To me, it would have been more efficient. I liked it better.

It's great to have "off-grid" skills no matter where you live. I remember friends who lived in a teepee for several years. It was very comfortable even in the NW rain! That was just east of Seattle as I recall. I've spent lots of time in a tent and could make it work. I know of another sister who is living in a cabin-tent right now and she posts on here and blogs about it. If I find the link, I'll post it here. I also have friends who have a Yurt on their property on the Oregon Coast. It's wonderful and not real expensive.
