Dh and I are 62 and 52 and if we were to build again I would want

1. one floor plan
2. a large eat in kitchen/family room combo with a section of lower counters that would be wheel chair accesible. And also a large pantry.
3. 2 bedrooms with large doors for a wheel chair if it was ever needed.
4. bathroom with a handicap shower and make it bigger than most bathrooms as well.
5. no carpet only hard surface floors
6. metal roofing

Jollyquilter - we did most of what you listed.

Definitely glad we went with no carpet. We are trying to keep the carpets clean in our rental and with 3 dogs and 2 cats - it AIN'T easy!! lol.

Well here's the latest picture. This was taken yesterday.

Meeting with electrician on the 29th to determine all the electrical placements. We have all the paint picked out.

Thanks, Nancy. It really is nice. We live on 18 acres and have lots of trees. We did have to cut 3 trees down prior to building the new house. You can see a stump in that last picture and how close it was. I have a picture from today that shows some windows and a door installed.

How exciting for you and your family. The house looks wonderful and beautiful. I love the pictures. When will the move-in date be? I'm sure y'all are excited about that.

Not sure yet on the move in date. If we go by the contract it will be in October or November, but if they keep progressing as quickly as they have - it could be sooner! We went out there early Sunday morning because I wanted to see what the east light looked like coming in. It's so awesome. Then I went and stood in the kitchen like I was at the sink - I was actually able to see my backyard! (our old kitchen was in the center of the house and had no windows.) Then I went and stood in our bedroom and the walk-in closet, dreaming. Next was the bathroom - I stood in the shower area and just imagined what it's going to look like. I went thru all the rooms doing this. It so peaceful to imagine the home completed and everything in it's place. I can hardly stand the wait.

This morning, we met with the electrician. We discussed where all the outlets and fixtures should go. He's also putting a light in the crawl space. (I guess that's code in Indiana now). We wanted one there anyway for the root cellar. The HVAC crew was there today as well installing duct work and vents. Hopefully the roofers will get started this week as well. I am so excited - this is an amazing process to see it day by day.

Hey, Sue - Yes he is growing up fast. 12 now. Hard to believe he'll be driving in a few years.

The house - great views. The main bathroom's shower surround was delivered Friday. DH said that work had been done on the porch and the plumber was doing his thing in the house. I am hoping to go up and see it tonight or tomorrow after work.

The internal part of the fire place is done. Next will be stacked stone for the front part. I was told yesterday the ceiling has been textured and we supposedly can paint this week.

HUGE BUMMER! With all the rockin' and rollin' over the weeked (storms), the fireplace/chimney developed leaks and the walls around it will have to be replaced along with a huge section of ceiling. The rest of the house is fine. It just made me sick to walk in on Saturday and see water dripping and the floor soaked. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

We have purchased all the paint and should be able to paint very soon.
Kitchen - soft green
Laundry/pantry - sunny yellow
Main bathroom & half bath - sky blue
Living room /hall - wet sand
Master bedroom - lavender
Master bath - some shade of lavender - depends on what looks best with tile
Guest room - pale pink
Lliam's Room - Purple and lime green. He wanted the whole room purple - we compromised on 1 wall and rest lime green.
One wall in the dining room will be spun gold. It looks good with the living room color and allows for separation of the living room and dining room.

Sorry about the rain dripping in the house. Better to find it out now, when it is fixable. Can't wait for y'all to move in.

Well isn't that frustrating - the yellow didn't cover very well and had to use the whole gallon on the pantry. The pink did the same thing and now I have to buy 2 more gallons (one of each) I may have to buy more of the sky blue for the main bathroom too because somehow one of our helpers used almost a whole gallon on on the tiny half bath. He painted all way down to the floor where the vanity goes. Live and learn.

Otherwise the whole house is painted inside save for some touch ups where the brushes came in contact with the ceiling. OOPS! Give me a q-tip and some white paint and I will fix it.

The roofers were there today for about an hour and had to leave due to the heat. It was 88 at 9 am. We are looking at another record breaking day of 103 here. Maybe next week will be a bit cooler - at least that is what is being forecast.

Also found out that we have locks on the doors now. We are meeting the tile guy at 730 pm tonight to finalize placement of tile.
