Amy, thank you! ...Do you have relatives in Wisconsin by any chance? (I ask because I haven't seen the name Marquardt since high school.)

Phyllis, I hope that makes your research easier! I pray that it has good results. :) My day is going well; yesterday and today are the first days off I've had since Yule. The Mister went out with friends, and I hope he doesn't come home sick again. *shakes head* He's been doing better since he started on this new vitamin regimen, but it has only been three days!

How are you doing today?

Amy, that's where I grew up...may I ask which Marquardt you're married to? Heck, I may have gone to school with him!

My husband's name is Michael, his grandfather Lorin was raised there, but I'm not exactly sure how the family line breaks out. It's so beautiful there. I always wished we could have moved up that way.

Michael Marquardt...rings a bell, but I can't put a face with it. Baraboo is beautiful, yes! I get so homesick sometimes it's not funny.

Thanks! I've seen it, but haven't tried it; elderberries are pretty awesome anyway.

My gosh Beverly, I'll be praying. They have no idea what's happening?

If he has an autoimmune type illness, you'll definitely want to take care not to put it in further overdrive. Some herbs that do support a compromised immune system will put an already overactive immune system in a serious state of bouncing off the walls so to speak and cause more damage. Look more towards balancing the immune system response, supporting the digestive system and adrenal glands (and don't forget the thyroid as part of the adrenals!!)

That's a good point, Rachel! He is trying to schedule an appointment to have some tests run; wish us both luck.

Alyce, herbs are medicine. Don't fool around with them willy-nilly. Get a skilled herbalist to work with you, and give it time. Herbal medicines don't work overnight. It's a lifestyle change.

That said, I'll pass along what I learned from David Hoffmann (author of "The Holistic Herbal" and many other books on phytotherapy), with whom I studied back in Maryland some time ago. His #1 recommendation for strengthening the immune system is three doses of echinacea (purple cone flower) per day every day for three weeks, then one week off, then repeat the cycle. Your body needs the week off to respond to the effects of the echinachea. That's how it builds your immune system -- or rather, how it helps you build your own! :)

It sounds as if a good talk therapist could help both of you find your way through this, if you can find one skilled in holistic care (clued in about nutrition's impact on physical and mental health), PTSD and so on. You might like to check out some excellent CDs by Belleruth Naparstek. You can read up on her online. Amazing woman, amazing CDs, one of which ("Sleep") was what helped me get over a long period of insomnia.

Fresh air and sunshine is an excellent remedy!

Oh, I know that; I've been hunting for a good herbalist. I never would have thought, though, to look for a talk therapist who was also skilled in holistic medicine. Thank you for the suggestion!

I managed to get him out to take a walk yesterday. He really doesn't exercise, which probably isn't helping matters any.
