Early supper tonight was beef with broccoli. Tomorrow I will add egg noodles to the leftovers for my lunch.

I made too much minestrone soup and put some in freezer. Warmed up soup tonight. Soup tasted better tonight than when I made fresh. I have to be GF and the pasta absorbed the flavor of the stewed tomatoes-yum!

Steak and sugar snap pea soup for supper tonight with a glass of Merlot. I like a lite supper so soup is the perfect choice.

I canned chicken broth today so I'm cooking collard greens in the left-over broth and the chicken fat I skimmed off the top of the broth. May have a country vegetarian supper with eye of the goat beans and fried potatoes in avocado oil.

That sounds so good Sara! I love collards, but the ones in the store have looked downright pathetic. I have started seeds, and hope for a plentiful, bug free harvest. |

Lisa, this bunch of collards were extra tough and the bugs had feasted on some of the leaves. I haven't grown collards so I wish you a bumper crop. I have Swiss chard planted in two lg galvanized tubs but with cloudy days the plants are stunted.

For lunch it was "standing at the stove eating out of the pot lamb stew". It was so good and I am so glad I turned on the oven to cook it even though I use my oven seldom in the summertime.

Yes Michelle very happy.
I have learned that the gamey taste of lamb is mostly in the fat so by removing most of the fat you reduce the gamey taste.

Supper in the slow cooker today. Turnip greens, turnips, baby yellow potatoes, red onion, ham steak, and mixed herbs.
What's on your menu?

Sounds good Sara. I love turnip greens but can never find them here unless I grow my own. I made a big Greek salad yesterday and have enough left over for tonight.

Judith, I've been watching the Life of Loi on PBS Create, she's a Greek chef. What do you put in your Greek Salad?

It can vary but usually cucumber, lots of tomatoes, pickled beets, garbanzos or red beans, feta cheese, chopped green olives, green onions and this time I added some leftover cooked celery root. It's one of my main hot weather meals. Dh puts tahini on his, I use mayonnaise; he has pita bread, I have a low carb tortilla.

That sounds so good Judith! When I used to teach flute and guitar years ago, there was a Greek bakery next to the music store that branched out and opened a small carry out. They had the best Greek salad ever! I have never been able to replicate it, but my mouth is drooling just thinking of it. Lately I have been making sourdough discard tortillas. We had bean burritos last night. I had some leftover tortillas, and dipped one naan style in some sriracha hummus. Yummo! The recipe makes way too many tortillas, so I saved half of the dough and am going to try using it as pizza dough tonight, with just olive oil, garlic, fresh tomato, basil and mozzarella. Maybe with a side of basic Greek salad LOL |

I never thought to use sourdough discard to make tortillas -- Good idea. I just filled the freezer with sourdough waffles. Way back many years ago I had my best friend Dora. She was Mexican. She wanted to learn how to bake bread and I wanted to learn how to make tortillas so we spent a few days in each others kitchens learning new skills. Our daughters were best friends too. Those were the good years.

Judith, I bet you make a mean tortilla! I have a press, but sometimes it is easier to just roll them out |

I learned to pat or roll them out. I did try a tortilla press but it was more bother than it was worth so I gave it away.

Hubby spent all day smoking brisket yesterday, so it was brisket sandwiches today! Delicious, but maybe something lighter is in order tomorrow night…! We are hosting both our families this week and next, will have 11 people total staying here at various times of the week, so we’ll be doing lots of grilling, side salads, and apps to eat outside! And thankfully I took next week off of work. Hope you ladies have a relaxing Labor Day weekend planned!

BTW, the sourdough discard tortilla dough worked beautifully as a pizza crust. I baked it on parchment on a baking sheet and it was so crispy! |

Marinated pork loin, mashed potatoes, turnip greens, honeydew melon. I seldom buy produce at walmart but we were there yesterday and I found fresh turnip greens. A first for this area.

Judith, glad you were able to find fresh turnip greens. We were on the same page yesterday; I cooked lemon garlic pork loin in the slow cooker with a large sweet potato and carrot.

Grass fed 93/7 ground beef meat balls and spaghetti sauce. So good I don't need a side dish or salad.

Sara, here in MA it’s getting cooler so it will start to be perfect spaghetti sauce-making (and eating) weather! Last night, hubby cut a nice chicken of the woods mushroom from our neighbors’ property, so we are deliberating whether to make “chicken” parm or nuggets, or a wild rice and mushroom stew, all of which we have tried before and liked. Whatever we make, we will be sharing with those neighbors because it will be a lot!
