We didn't get the little greenhouse up as we are looking at the big picture to include a root cellar and storage truck. So, I am hoping to put together a cold frame so I can begin starts in a few months. At one place I worked we built a strawbale cold frame and placed an old glass door over it. My goal is to get it built and put the outside thermometer in so I can keep track of the temperature. I may need to tarp it at night to help hold in the heat.
Does anyone else have an old frame? How does it work for you?

I used to have one that was a hand me down from my old neighbor but it was old and has now broken down. I just got a book from the library that I will be working on things from for the garden.
The complete guide to greenhouses & garden projects : greenhouses, cold frames, compost bins, trellises, planting beds, potting benches & more. by Black and Decker
It has a nice easy cold frame, potters table, and water barrels among other things
God bless,

Laurie, I like that idea about the strawbales and the glass door. That would help here with our high winds although I'd have to come up with a plan to keep the door from blowing away. We had to have a patio door replaced last year and I requested they leave the old glass. Figured there had to be some way to use it for a cold frame. I've been looking at the plans from out extension office but those are mainly high tunnels. One of these days we'd like to get one built but all in due time.

I have two ways to handle the glass door. Frame it in so you can latch it down or just place a straw bale or two on top. Hubby is supposed to bring the straw down for me this week. My seeds arrived and I'm excited to get started.
