We are safe, but we have no power. We've been out of electricity - along with the other half million people without power - thank goodness we got a really good generator last year.

Exercise today consisted of hand washing some clothes and hanging them on the line; hand washing dishes and scrubbing the stove - don't quite understand why I always fall back on cleaning when anything goes wrong.

Well, keep up your good works, sisters.

Good News I have now lost 28 pounds, slow and steady is working. I am doing the happy dance. Still have a ways to go but making progress.

Anyone know why I would be craving salt so badly?

Lesley......congrats on the pounds gone! The cravings are the weather. Drink more. Your body needs fluids.

We were without power as well since friday late afternoon. We are back on now and I am struggling to get things back to normal. We made out well and there is a post on my blog about the adventure if you want to take alook.

I jumped on the scales this morning and I have gained 2 pounds since the power went off. Got to get busy and do some moving. I know that was the issue as it was so hot we sat alot the last few days. So I will be drinking watere and moving as much as I can.

Lesley - great job on loosing those pounds. And I agree with Kim, you must keep drinking water. Fruit juice would also help. How about a nice ripe peach?. Or just cut up a lemon, drop a couple of lemon slices in a jar of ice and water, shake it up and drink it up. I find that water tastes a lot better with a little lemon in it.

Even though I haven't lost more weight, I'm toning up by losing inches. I really let myself go over the last 6 years.

However, the kids took a photo of me yesterday. If I get up the nerve, I'll post my results so far. I need to lose 36 more pounds to be at my best health.

Kristina,
You have so much to be proud of. Look at your nice waistline, your toned arms, firm neck. I know you are still looking to lose more, but don't loose sight of how much you have accomplished. You look mahh-velous!!

Aw, you ladies are too nice. Thanks!

I agree about the scale. I don't like to use it or measure anything. I just eat right and make sure I get a good workout.

Hubby is down south a bit, camping and watching stock car races, so we didn't hit the gym this weekend. That's okay. I have to can relish today.

Keep up the awesome work ladies. We'll feel so much better.

Ladies I am sorry I have been MIA! Things are a bit hectic with all the garden stuff coming in and the canning to do as well me trying to roll BALLS fast enough to keep orders going out the door. Whew! But I am trying to take a few minutes each day and gather my thoughts. But I think I need a bucket to put them in......Hahaha!

I have not even been on the scales for at least 2 weeks.....I am afraid to now!

But I really need to get back at it.

Oh my goodness, I am embarrassed. I just looked through this entire thread and found that I had posted here already, back in January! And then never managed to return!

Since that time my motivation has gotten stronger. I recently found I have bone spurs on my hip. My job involves a lot of sitting and that is probably the cause. I've been doing physical therapy and working with a trainer at a local gym, and keeping a food log.

Speaking of which, you should check it out if you haven't got a food log tool for your computer. https://www.choosemyplate.gov/SuperTracker/default.aspx . You can enter the food you eat by choosing from a list, and it gives you various reports including nutrient reports with vitamin and mineral analsysis over time. You can also track your weight and physical activity on the site. It works pretty well, and my trainer was impressed. I can even enter data using my cell phone.

Unfortunately I have been doing all this for about 6 weeks and I have not lost much weight, maybe about 6 pounds. I did not go to the gym Wednesday night, because I have been neglecting my Dear Husband and he was getting grouchy about having to cook for himself. Tonight I was feeling stiff and sore, and I hung around the house and garden all night, and never made it to the gym. So that is TWO nights in a row I missed it.

Now I am reading about all your successes and I think I am committed to going to the gym tomorrow. Thanks!

You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands - You shall be happy and it shall be well with you. -Psalm 128.2

Welcome back Kim and Brenda!! Everyone checks in and out at will. No worries about being MIA.

Now that it is officially summer, most of my activity comes from the garden. Tonight, I spent 90 minutes picking raspberries. Lots of squatting, bending and stooping. So, that was the exercise for today. And tomorrow I'll make some jam.

Still trying to stay active and keep the few muscles I still have.

Hope everyone is keeping up with their goals.

Since I've started taking my lunch at work, I've lost a couple pounds. I'd like to get out and walk more but it's so dang hot. I also need to get back to doing yoga. I felt better when I was doing it every night. I made some edamame fried rice (low fat)tonight to take for my lunch tomorrow. I've been eating more vegetarian and only an occasional fast food meal.I still drink a lot of soda and I refuse to drink diet cause the sweetener is made by MonsantoI also need the caffeine. I went to a spiritual retreat today and didn't have any caffeine all day. I almost fell asleep during the afternoon session. Despite my sometimes poor eating habits, I have low blood sugar and low blood pressure. So my biggest problem is my weight. I eat when I'm stressed so I'm trying to cultivate inner peace.

Hi All
Like Brenda I have been MIA for many many weeks. Enjoying the "good life" AKA food choices; but not necessarily the healthy life. It came home to me yesterday after a Dr. appointment. I still weigh the same as I did end of March. GOOD?? ..well...

But in the 1970"s I was a "weigher" for WWatchers. I can look into the mirror and tell my "real weight" within 2 pounds at any time. And I know I DON'T weigh the same as I did EOMarch -- even in the Dr scales say so. hmmmm

Finally figured it out. Stopped yoga.. no class.. stopped walking (It's now 102 outside and twisted knee), stopped eating healthier. I LOST 3 POUNDS IN MUSCLE WEIGHT (which is firm and thin) and gained 3 POUNDS IN FLUFFY FAT !!!

I am the SAME weight.. but not as healthy. POW... as Emeril would say (or Jackie Gleason to Ethel if you are old enuf to remember them)... Silly Person. Did a giant gymnastic Olympic Back Slide!!

Time to take a leaf from CINDY'S book and go more Vegetarian. (Who live on the average 6 -7 healthier years longer than carnivores.) So dusting off cookbooks and my lifetime subscription to Veggie Times. THANKS CINDY FOR REMINDING ME OF HEALTHIER THINGS.

AND THANKS ALL FOR THIS BLOG!!

Mary Jane.........sounds like you got it going on girl! Now please if you can find the time, do share some menus and recipes with us. My hubs refuses to go veggie all the time but we do eat that way about 90% of the time.

Brenda......this time of year is hard to not get sidetracked.

Marianne......those rasberries sound good.

It is very hot here as well but I am finding the pool to be my best friend for workouts. I can do things in the pool that I cannot do out of the pool with my knees the way they are.

Hi girls,
On my way to the gym, as promised! For those with bad knees and hips, I feel your pain.

Recently Ive been taking a supplement with Glucosamine, bowellia extract, Curcumin, and whole grape extract.

It seems to be helping. The boswellia and curcumin reduce inflammation, and the glucosamine supports your cartilage. I'm not sure about the whole grape extract, but since that's in red wine, it's probably good for me, right?

Brenda.. Y

Yes, the reversatol that is in red wine is good stuff. I hear that green tea is the red wine substitute for people who don't do wine. Not sure if that is accurate, but it's what "THEY" are saying.

My hubby and I were talking about longevity, and he said that we are living much longer today than people in years past. I said: "Poppycock!" OR something to that effect.

At which point I whipped out my geneaological research and showed him that people in the USA in the end of the 1700's and 1800's (as well as Sicily in the same time period) were living into their 60's, 70's and even 80's -- and without heart transplants, cholesterol meds, immunizations, and antibiotics. The worked very hard (no couch potato TV watchers), and ate the crops they grew with occasional meat (think the Chicken for Sunday stew pot).

I guess it really is about life style in the end. And heredity too.

So keep on exercising and eating healthy veggie style (except for that poor Sunday chicken that never made it across the road in time to get away!) LOL

Mary

Yes, Mary,

I have that book "Nourishing Traditions" and it makes a lot of sense. Our ancestors got a lot of nourishment by using "tip to tail" of their livestock and eating a wide variety of plant foods in season. Our TV/frozen dinner culture today limits us unnecessarily.

Sadly, when I got home from my seminar last night I had the best of intentions to go to the gym but did NOT. I didn't work in my garden EITHER!

I will go this afternoon. As soon as I get my July Dotee finished.

I lost 26 lbs last year by just going on the Paleo Diet. You can eat everything in moderate quantities except for Gluten, legumes, sugar and dairy. Basically no processed food. I use honey and nut flours to make treats. tons of recipes and information if you just google or buy the paleo cook books. It was so easy. I've combined this with my current crossfit routine and the pounds just melt off. I will be starting the Whole 30-diet ( a stricter form of paleo) to give me a kickstart again. anyone willing to join me, just let me know. I could always use a 1-800 - HELP I'm gonna eat a donut friend. :)

No gluten or legumes? No dairy? Wow. That would be hard for me. For lunch today I had rice and beans with a little cheese. I thought I was doing good because it was meatless. I have a lot of freedom for the next two days to eat what I want because Mr. Meat and Potatoes is away from home...

Hi Brenda ! Yes, Paleo is certainly challenging unless you plan ahead. I feel stronger and am so much healthier without the processed food and the sugar. I haven't had a soda in over 2-years as water, tea, and some coffee are my main staples. Great studies on the Paleo Diet. You ought to read if you ever get the chance.
