Anyone else working on getting into shape and getting some pounds off? I am down 7 pounds and working on it slowly. Maybe we could encourage one another?

I am trying. My horrible habits are drinking Diet Coke and I don't eat fruit. I just don't like fruit. Yes, I have tried it all, tried making smoothies, tried juicing, have tried just about every kind of preparation, I just don't like it. I met with a nutritionist yesterday. I just need a person to be held accountable to. When I was in the military it was easier. Now, it's a little rough.

Sounds like you are doing great though Kristina! Keep up the great work!

My problem is breakfast. I am always on the run with kids getting on the school bus (two), that I grab a piece of toast with butter. I need to get back to my steel cut oats, oatmeal, fruit and other good foods. Unfortunately, over the last 5 years, I have gained too much and need to get it off. Same with dh.

I actually joined a gym in May. I meet up with 3 other women and a trainer 4 days a week for an hour. Oh my goodness, I thought I was going to die the first week, but now, even though I'm still 50 pounds overweight, I feel strong and healthy. I've dropped 25 pounds so far. Slow and steady!

My husband is so sweet though. I told him, I'm having a mid-life crisis and this is a healthy way to work through it.

I'd love to encourage when needed and have a place for encouragement myself. I don't know a whole bunch about getting healthy as I'm learning myself after almost 40 years, but I'd be willing to share what I've been learning.

On the breakfast front...since we homeschool, we are able to sit down and enjoy breakfast with each other almost every day. However, there are crazy mornings and I start the oats in the crockpot over night, or have a few breakfast quick things in the freezer. Would that help?

What an awesome start, Wendy. That is a huge encouragement.

I'm with Kristina--I just don't like breakfast. I will certainly eat it if someone else fixes it. But I don't want to think about food in the morning.

I also drink LOTS of diet Pepsi. And I am not keen on fruit nor do I eat many vegetables. When I buy them they usually go bad before I use them. So why buy them if they will only rot? I'm trying to include more vegetables at dinner instead of just quick mashed potatoes.

Oh my, I could lose about 60 lbs.! I know it is a combination of what I eat (and don't) as well as lack of exercise. Not to mention not having any much encouragement as well as not knowing where to start. DD and I were walking this summer but part of the side road near us that we walked on was tore out making it much harder to access the country side road we used for our walks.

I could give up pop in a heart beat. I don't drink or smoke but I am a sucker for chocolate. I guess for me it's feeling overwhelmed by not knowing where to start and not having a plan rather than keeping up with it. I'm tired of feeling tired. KWIM? And I'm closing in on 50......

Keep up the good work Kristina - you're an inspiration for us others! And yes, it'd be nice if we all encouraged one another. I'm not one for New Year's resolutions, but this may be as close as I get!

We have attended the gym on a regular basis, but my husband's sister was in the hospital and almost died. We stopped going, and then I got sick recently. Hence, we got out of the routine.

We are back in a smaller routine, and I'm now down 8 pounds. I managed to walk 42 minutes yesterday too.

I am definately trying to get a few pounds off but this time starting with a healthier me instead of just thinner. Today will be my nineteenth day in a row eating five fruits and veggies a day. I don't hate them just don't think of them. It is getting easier evryday to get to five. Just started back up on my yoga yesterday and boy was that harder than expected. I have 15 to 20 pounds to lose and a lot of clothes really miss that are only about five pounds away.

I'm trying to do the same Emily - eat more fruits and vegetables. To be "healthy" I need to lose about 60-75 lbs. I walked another 44 minutes today also.

How is everyone else doing today?

One thing that has really helped me has been to keep track of every little thing I eat and drink. Oh my goodness, I had no idea how much I actually did eat! I use my fitness pal on my phone and everything gets logged in. A friend and I can see each other's accounts on there and it has helped to keep us accountable.

I've been trying to change just one thing at a time rather than a total life makeover. It started with the gym 4 days a week. Then working on enough sleep. Then adding on the water intake. Then tracking the food.

I was the biggest obstacle to getting started though. I didn't want to seem selfish about taking the time for me, but now I can see that I need that time. I want to be healthy and to do that, it takes time.

I need accountability. May I join you chicks? My begin date is December 28. I intend to work on the physical fitness badge. Should I post my weekly goals and let you cheer me or jeer me? I do believe in strength in the Lord and numbers.

I've lost 20+ pounds since Sept. I am using slim life drinks. They were recommended by my doctor. They make you feel full. But I also am making big changes in food choices, exercise, and lifestyle.

It is a vegan powder that you mix with water or juice and drink 10 minutes before a meal. It is recommended for people with lots of weight to lose.

Welcome Wendy, Carol and Amy! Lets get in shape and stay healthy! Woot woot!

I really don't feel like walking today, but since I've stopped in here, I will! I'm so far behind on baking for our first Christmas reunion (tomorrow) that I woke up a wee bit down. Exercise always picks me up.

Hope all of you start your day on a happy note!

Hey girls,
Can I join, too? I am not trying to lose weight, but I have to stay on a fitness program and I always lose my way during the holidays and it is so tough to be excited about getting back to pilates, etc. in January!! I sure can understand how Kristina feels . . . when something important like a family member's health comes up, everything gets shoved aside. Getting back to it is another thing.

And Wendy, how do you prepare steel cut oats in the crock pot? You may be my new hero!!

Hi Marianne and Beverly! I'm excited there are others that are working on getting in shape too. I think we can all do it by helping each other. We just had a family Christmas and I ate way too much. I did cut back on the sweets, but there were not enough dishes that had "good" food for the party. I had planned to take a dish of roasted vegetables, but I was already taking 3 dishes and a ton of our yearly cookies too. Next year, I will ask someone else to bake the sweets and concentrate on taking healthy dishes.

I have now made 22 days eating 5 fr hits or veggies. I almost don't have to think about it anymore! Although I am not actually losing weight I do feel pretty good. Not really working out much yet but hoping to add that in to the plan soon. I got out of habit working out sometime around two years ago when my kids got big enough to act up while I was five minutes into my elliptical workout. Then I would have to jump off to fix whatever crisis they were having. After ten or so times I just quit getting started. My oldest daughter, now four says I should try again. Guess I better get started.

Oh my, Beverly! I went to the website and looked at the pic. Ew! But wow, it was interesting to see what looks like the displacement of the various organs in the body in the larger woman......and the enlarged heart. I don't think I'll ever be close to the thinner woman, but it does make me wonder what my old bod would look like in one of these scans.

As for the site - I'd heard about it but never checked it out. Geesh, on the opening page alone I must've found half a dozen really nifty ideas! And, okay, some really yummy looking recipes. :(

Emily,

Great job in making a very healthy change in eating habits. Do you feel fuller incorporating so many veggies and fruit servings into your diet?

Here is to Day #23!!! Congratulations

I'm down 10 pounds today. When I don't feel like making an egg/spinach or adding other veggies to eggs (for breakfast) I have a bottle of low-sodium V-8 juice to add more vegetables. I just don't have resources to buy a juicer to make it myself right now, but it helps me get more veggies. Since I am still suffering from ear problems I have increased my vitamin C from natural sources and added fresh squeezed lemon juice to my water. I am still drinking an 8 oz. glass of filtered water with raw honey and ACV with the Mother.

I hope to get a walk in later today. I had to get a few groceries this morning for my daughter's (9 yo) birthday party, so my exercise got delayed.

I took at look at pinterest but could not find the picture you have talked about, but I googled it. Makes me want to exercise and watch what I eat even more.

I need to join in too - I switched jobs this year from one where I was on my feet all day to one where I mostly sit at a desk or in my car. I didn't realize how much exercise I got just working retail - I have only gained 5 pounds or so but I have lost a lot of muscle tone, and I had already wanted to lost about 15 pounds. So now I have aches and pains where I shouldn't and I have a great wardrobe that I can't wear. Plus since I'm 42 it's really time to think about this.....When I worked my last job as the manager of the bakery/cheese department at an organic/gourmet food store I could count on losing 5-10 pounds every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas just because I was literally running my butt off all the time - suffice it to say that that is not the case this year. So anyway - I'm in, I think we are going to join the Y so I can attend some classes - Zumba, Pilates, and Yoga.....

I'm back to drinking my 64 oz. of water every day and staying away from pop. My poor bladder!

Next nice day off I have I'm going to rearrange the barn so I can set up my Gazelle. I wont have any excuse if the weather is bad and I need to exercise.

A few women I work with are talking of starting up a group for us to keep track of weight loss.

It's a start!
