I was feeling very sad about Hobbs being gone...the tears are flowing like a river this week... I found an online support group and took the plunge and posted of my loss. The people were in the same shape I am in and some even worse but sharing our mutual losses was comforting. The things I'm trying to do to cope that normal people would think odd were the same things they are doing so I didn't feel quite so insane.

I know so many of us here have lost a beloved pet recently. I just want you to know that
#1 you can email me and talk of your loved one, I'll cry right along with you and share stories of my Hobbs and
#2 if you'd like to share with others this is the site I was on, they don't ask for money and don't take personal information to join.

Thanks for sharing the link, Audrey! I was in your neck of the woods over Thanksgiving- I wish I had had time to meet up with you! Maybe next time!

There are some days were I feel like I am coping well with the loss of Sky-Dog and then there are days where I feel the big hole in my heart rip right open :( They sure leave their muddy puppy paw prints all over our heart and soul, don't they? ;)

I'll be in your neck of the woods this Friday for a company Christmas party. We are driving up, going to the party then driving back the next day so no time for me to meet up with you. One of these days though!

I've been wondering how you've been doing since the passing of Sky Dog. I know you got the new puppy to keep you occupied but there is still that hole in your heart that won't seem to mend. I read on the internet that when they pass over they leave a piece of their soul attached to yours and you give them a piece of yours to take with them. We wont be complete until we see them in the afterlife.

Audrey- allow extra time for driving. The roads are going to be slick! Especially on Saturday.

Audrey and Tara,

I lost my little Tito in July. He was the cutest little Chihuahua. He was a gift from my son while in his senior year of high school. My son knew that he was going to be gone on a mission for our church for two years after he graduated. He wanted me to have a friend to help me through the empty nesting. What an exceptional gift from an extraordinary young man.

Tito was my best friend. He was there when I cried, when I laughed, when I was depressed, when I had any kind of emotion. Husbands are nice to have around, but let's face it. They don't always help you through emotional times. *G* Tito did that for me.

He was killed by a neighborhood German Shepard. I was devastated. All I could do was cry and cry. I kept going over in my mind how he died and how scared he must have been. My heart is absolutely broken.

I have been able to get a new Chi to try to get over my loss. Her name is Shelbee and she is so sweet. She isn't Tito, but she is helping me to heal.

No, I haven't ever lost a child. Heaven forbid that I do. My mother did and I have always been amazed that she could still breath. I'm not sure that I would be able to. I think that God gives us people and animals to love so that we can feel the ultimate love and feel what it is to lose that. Character building is part of His grand plan.

I'm so sorry that you lost Hobbs and Vegas. Take the time to mourn them. Allow yourself to feel what ever emotion you want to feel. Never let someone else dictate what your heart is telling you.

When we get to heaven (which I'm pretty sure will look like Wyoming) we will meet our friends in that big Dog Park in the sky!

Farmgirl Hugs!

Sherone, you've reduced me to tears again for your loving post. I am so sorry for your loss of Tito! Hobbs was attacked 4 times in his life, 3 by German Shephards, the other by a lab. He never liked either of those breeds, who could blame him? I was always worried that he would be killed one day but God had already chosen cancer for his lot.

I too never had children and Hobbs was my consolation. I poured every ounce of love I would have for a child on him and he loved me deeply in return. He was all I needed, we talked of getting another pet to keep him company but our little family of 3 always felt complete. I don't regret that since all of my love was lavished on him alone, and he deserved it. A lot of people don't "get" that. They say you can't love an animal as much as a child but for those of us who were never blessed with children, well, I think we would disagree.

I've been thinking of adopting another thru one of the Cairn rescue groups. It breaks my heart that there are Cairns out there that haven't had the chance to be loved. But I have to wait on DH's heart to heal. He says "never again"...My Hobbs was always a generous boy, welcoming into his home all kinds of strays we collected on our walks until we could find their people. He would share his water, his food, his toys. I think he would want me to open his home to other needy Cairns.

I'm quoting you here "When we get to heaven (which I'm pretty sure will look like Wyoming) we will meet our friends in that big Dog Park in the sky!". Yes! A part of me wants that today! But until God says my time is up I carry this sentiment in my heart, that my Hobbs is waiting with "the ghosts" (our 2 previous dogs pre-Hobbs) and the cats we had. They are all playing and loving and sharing stories of me and DH and their lives with us. And I especially like the part about heaven looking like Wyoming!

Thank you so much for replying. For me, part of the healing process has been to be able to share about Hobbs. I feel we honor our beloved pets by letting others know what special friends they were to us. Tito sounds like he was a gift from heaven and I know he will always hold a piece of your heart and you hold a piece of his.

Tara, I wish I could offer words of comfort. I agree, sudden deaths like Vegas's and Sherone's Tito are the worst! Even though I didn't know what was wrong with my Hobbs, deep down I knew his time was rapidly coming to a close. I used to have dreams the last 6 months of his life that I he had wondered off and I couldn't find him. When I awoke I knew those dreams meant he would be leaving me soon. But part of me said, yes someday in the far future...On his last day in our Wyoming home when we had decided he needed to see his vet NOW!(she was in Colorado). I stopped my frantic preparations for leaving and took pictures of him on the sofa we shared. That part of me that dreamt of him wandering off knew he would never return with us.

But, I was able to unconsiously process his declining health and to say goodbye and prepare him and me for his leaving. Your Vegas and Sherone's Tito were ripped from you with no warning! What a horror! I can't imagine the depth of your heartbreak! Mine is unbearable and yet I was partially prepared. I wish I could reach through this computer screen and fold you in my arms and cry with you! Find a quiet place and sob and scream and shake and whimmper...But when you have no strength left to cry more, offer Thanksgiving up that you were able to share your life with such a wonderous creature. You were blessed beyond measure by having him in your life however brief his time was with you. He loved you with all he possessed and you in turn were a blessing to him by giving him all of your love! Let your grief wash over you as many times as you need, but always, always give thanks for his life.

Ladies, we will get through this pain...

(((hugs and tears}}}
