This isn't actually for Mail Art, but I had to share these pics. I asked Nini to make me an altered clipboard (we've got a little business deal going). I asked for a full-sized clipboard and I told her what colors, and other things I liked and indicated I wanted to be able to use it so it needed to not be too "lumpy" on the surface. Because she knows me pretty well and because of my "likes" she fashioned this ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL creation for me. It's vintage, shabby chic and has vintage photos on the front. Lovely ribbon roses on the clip. The pic on the left is actually one she captured of me and my little sister from August 1955. The one on the right is not me or my family but she knows I'm a pianist. The hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" in the center is actually one of my mom's favorite hymns and was sung at her memorial service. . . Nini didn't know that.
On the back she has used vintage apron prints, the "History of the Apron" story which is actually the same one I put a copy of in the pocket of every apron I sell. Roses, butterflies, bird clipart with scroll-y trim. Well I couldn't have asked for something more beautiful or personal!!
Just had to show you more of Nini's work!!! CJ

Here is the FABULOUS mail art I recevied from CJ today! I LOVE Snowcovered tree so this is right up my alley...and the story about the tree that survived the fire is a wonderful touch! I have a frame that it will fit in so I'm going to be hanging it up on my wall tonight. THANK YOU CJ! And thanks again for going "non Christmas" for me!
Cheers! ~ Marilyn

Thanks girls! The mountain pic in the lower left corner of Marilyn's Mail Art are the LaPlata mountains of the San Juan Range of the Colorado Rockies. They are less than 50 miles away and that is the view from my kitchen (east) window. The tree in the right lower corner is our "Miracle Tree", it is a Colorado Blue Spruce. It was about 18 inches tall and we planted it the fall of 1993 in the shelter of a mature deciduous tree while it took root and got established. In July 1994 we lost our house, everything in it and all of our natural wooded area around our house in an arson fire. That little tree was burned as was the big one by it . . but we left all trees until the following spring to see what kind of growth . . or not . . . we would see, just to better know whether there was any life in them. The big deciduous tree was destroyed, the blue spruce badly damaged but still had life. My hubby trimmed off the damaged branches/needles . . thus is was quite misshapen. However, since then . . . spring of 1995 . . .WITHOUT any further trimming, shaping or anything but water, sunlight and our admiration, that tree has grown into a STUNNINGLY, PERFECTLY SHAPED thing of BEAUTY. It is now about 20 feet tall and perfect!!! It is at the end of our driveway and we can admire it from the house, the yard, the road . . and we are reminded of the entire miracle . . and life lessons learned . . that the Lord worked for us out of that terrible fire!!! We have other Colorado Blue Spruce trees on our property . . . our state tree and my favorite tree. Thought I'd share the story with the rest of you girls!!!
Thanks for letting me share!! CJ
P.S. The pic at the top is something I had . . not sure of it's location, but it SURE looks like Colorado . . and it could be.

AND, just another bit of trivia . . .
Nini and I found out just recently that we both have the same maiden name . . GARDNER. I had sent Nini the Fall Apple ATC with the info about our family farm and the "Gardner Farm and Orchards". She emailed me and told me she was a "Gardner Girl" too! So, we're probably related . . :) Life is such fun, isn't it?!?! CJ

Wow Nini and CJ! I am in complete awe over your beautiful creations. The clipboard is so amazing! I love everything about it....the roses and black & white prints look so sharp together and I love the vintage feel it gives. CJ, the card you made is also very beautiful! The colors and pictures definitly made me think of waking up to a crisp winter morning after a snowfall snuck up during the night. And that view! I'm a tad bit jealous! The story of the miracle tree is amazing. I'm so glad you and your husband thought to wait and see if the trees would make it before taking them down. And what a perfect tree it is! It looks like you have a little peice of Heaven there in Colorado!

Ohhh! My goodness! CJ! You didn't have to post the pics - but thank you, and thanks to all of you for your kindness! I think all of our farmgirl mail artists are absolutely amazing. I love all the treasures I've collected from each of you over the past year, and look forward to many more in the future! It's like Christmas every month! :)
CJ - I, too, just love that card, and the story about the tree... SO inspiring!

Oh CJ, reading your posts has put a lump in my throat....losing your home and keeping your beloved little spruce. And thankyou for sharing the photos of Ninis' clipboard. It is fabulous!
I received your mail art last week and it is wonderful! A lovely, handcrafted apron by CJ in holiday print fabric. And little surprises like a gift tag, card and cookie cuttiers tucked into the pockets. I loved everything, CJ and thankyou so much! I am very pleased that I now have 2 aprons by CJs Creations hanging in my kitchen! Your love and consideration are stitched into my life as well as those aprons...Thankyou!
And consider yourself hugged!

Sharon, I received your wonderful package yesterday. Thank you sooooo much for the beautiful card which is so special. I love the little cameo button and the ME bookmark with the place to put a picture. Oh the little tea bag pocket is so cute and the eggnog tea is to die for. My hubby and I shared the tea last night. Everything is delightful. I am not able to post a picture right now as my scanner is not working.
Have a wonderful Christmas, Sharon
