I wasn't sure where to post this, finally settled on "reading room". After all, they lend DVD's out in the public libraries now!
So, what's your favorite movie? My favorite all-time movie has to be the Walt Disney "So Dear to My Heart" any farmgirl who has seen it will know why. Horses, spinning, raising lambs, county fairs, honey bees - it has it all.
Of movies that are currently playing, I like "Cars". Slow down, get off the highway and back into small towns and rural areas!
Anyone else want to share?

I think that there is another thread on this from quite a while ago. Always good to take a new look though! If you want a gentle, sweet movie- see Ladies in Lavender with Judy Dench and Maggie Smith. Absolutely brilliant, understated and beautiful!

Here's my husband's current favorite: World's Fastest Indian, a true story about an older gentleman who sets a land speed record on his motorcycle (Indian) at the Bonneville salt flats back in the 50s. A great guy flick that this chick also loved! |

I just bought World's Fastest Indian at Target last night!! I've been putting movies on the computer to watch when I walk on the treadmill. I'm glad to hear you liked it. Anything with Anthony Hopkins has to be good!!

In case you haven't guessed I love fairytales. I collect fairy tale books. You know I think I have to many collects and they just keep growing.

Brenda, I will have to look for the movie you mentioned. Is it an old one? I love anything 'farmgirl' in books or movies!! Sunshine, I think we have similar taste - I have Ladyhawke, Everafter and Princess Bride in my DVD collection. The book of The Princess Bride is great - I have that too! I only buy DVDs that I know I will watch over and over. Karin, Ladies in Lavender is lovely - anything with Judi Dench or Maggie Smith is great. I also enjoyed the one where Judi Dench played Queen Victoria with Billy Connelly - can't remember the name. One of Maggie Smith that is great is My House in Umbria. I've just borrowed Pride and Prejudice to re-watch - saw it at the movies, but my girls want to watch it. Also need to be able to freeze to copy the dresses - am I the only person who watches period drama and is thinking about whether the clothing is worth copying?!! My husband thinks I'm mad!! When we all watched Nanny McPhee, I commented on the maid's dress and apron - everyone just rolls their eyes and asks if I want them to pause the DVD!! That reminds me - I also love so-called 'kids' movies - Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, The Secret Garden, The Little Princess, I could go on forever! Best wishes and keep dreaming, Jayne

My favorite all time movie is "Country". (an '80's "Mom saves the farm" type movie) I could watch it once a week! I also like Princess Bride, and alot of kids' movies are my favorites...you gotta love Babe!! And Home on the Range and Chicken Run!! I LOVED Nanny McPhee..that is the most recent one that I loved enough to go out and buy it. I did the same thing..commenting on the apron!!

I enjoyed Nanny McPhee too! I love Sound of Music too! Almost Heaven, Last Holiday for recent ones I loved and I love Appolo 13, Awakenings, Patch Adams, Polyanna, Bicenteniel Man, Forrest Gump, I am Sam, Little House series, Father of the Bride I & II, All of Me, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jack, and others. For me in movies a good ending or at least a positive one is a must and I always notice the gardens/yards(love landscaping), Interiors& Homes(am in the process of getting my interior design degree), and stores( I used to own one and hope to again!)! The designers for these movies have such access and imagination and I love to see what they come up with!! Hugz!

I absolutely love "Doc Hollywood" with Michael J. Fox. Except for the girl who comes out of the lake after skinny-dipping (towards the front of the movie), there's nothing objectionable. In fact, when the couple almost gets frisky out in the boat, the main character realizes it would be wrong.
I love the scene of them slow dancing to "Crazy" (I think) by Patsy Cline at the city festival (turnips?? can you tell my memory is shot right now) -- sooooo romantic.
It's small town silliness with a pet pig and eccentric folks. I love it!

Cars was cute. I guess it sort of had some of the same stuff. Lots of stuff was different though too...for instance..the guy was a doctor, not a race car..haha Both were good though!

My hubby is a motorcycle nut and loved the Worlds Fastest Indian. So did I. But my all time favorite is Disney's Beauty and The Beast, but Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, and Dances with Wolves are high on my list too.
Pray for our troops to come home safe and soon. Enjoying the road to the simple life :>) |
