DH came home this evening with a gorgeous leather couch (2nd hand) from a co-worker. DH thought he might drag this on up to camp-After I saw what beautiful shape it was in I said....NOPE! It is filthy though, a light cream color leather, and there aren't any rips, tears, or scuffs. It is completely intact, but very dirty.

My question is what is the best way to clean a leather couch?

Talk to me ladies....

Hi Melody,
I used to be in the furniture business with my DH. You should use a good leather cleaner/conditioner. You can also spot clean really dirty places with a cloth dampened with distilled water, then go over it with the leather cleaner/conditioner. Leather is very easy to take care of. The higher the grade of leather, the more durable it is.

Melody- probably the best and cheapest way that I know how to clean leather is to get Saddle Soap in the horse aisle at your local farm store. It's a big bottle of glycerin based soap so you can get a lot of cleaning done with it. Then you should condition the heck out of it with the best leather conditioner you can buy because this helps preserve the pores and structure of the leather and also seals against soil being ground in or the leather becoming brittle.

Thank you girls for the great suggestions-I am itching to get it cleaned and in the front room---it looks soooo comfy! Now I have to find a great throw to compliment the couch...
